For anyone here playing in D standard and drop C (cgcf) what string gauges do you prefer?
I use GHS Pressurewound M7200 (44-62-84-106) for DGCF.
A few reasons I've chosen them...
This is my first time trying the DGCF tuning, so I didn't want to have to modify the nut on my Fender Jazz. The PWs are naturally stiffer and slightly higher in tension than typical rounds of similar sizes, making them more suitable for down-tuning. I use the PW L7200 (40-54-76-96) for EADG, so I wanted a set that's close in tension/stiffness for DGCF. I never tune down to C.
What brand/type/gauges of strings do you normally use for EADG?
I have a set of Ernie ball power slinky's on my drop c bass 55-110 but the 110 isn't cutting it.
+1 on this one, my only gripe is that I wish it came in stainless steel too. What Michael T said: the new(ish) D'Addario 160BT, 50-67-90-120 works very well with D-G-C-F tuning. I use it on Eb tuning, but in experimenting with D tuning with these strings, I find they hold feel, tone, and consistency very well, for a reasonable price.
