When I was in SKIDMARK for 13 years, everyone wanted to know who it was named after. Anyone that did laundry hated the name. Some uptight clubs would not list our name. So, looking back, it was a bad name, seemed funny at the time.
No idea if they're still going, but for a good 10 years, every week without fail, there was a band in the gig listings around London, whose name I won't be able to to post here :
They payed homage to Kool and The Gang, but replace "Kool" with an expletive, the is usually spelled with a C.
It was never censored in the listings / venue billings.
Another band that springs to mind, were a transvestite sleaze rock group - that always got rave reviews, and quite a lot of press (without their name being censored).
The first part of their name was "Selfish", and you can guess what the second word was...
They had a really cool song, called Avocado, but obviously I can't post a link here.
