Daddario comes through!

I recently picked up a 92-93 Fender Jazz Bass Plus, and I tried a set of nickel rounds on it, and as usual, didn't like them. I've been using flatwounds almost exclusively for some time, and they work for the music I usually play.

New bass, new strings, right? I've never tried D'Addario half rounds, so I ordered a set, .040-.095. First thing I did was cut the G string too short. Yes, bonehead move. The .040 wasn't available for purchase on any of the sites I looked at, just the .030 and the .130. So I emailed D'Addario, and asked them if I could buy a .040 directly from them. I admitted that I had done a dopey thing and ruined the string.

Got an email back asking for my address. I gave it, and they mailed me the string, gratis. I certainly didn't ask for them to do that, and I'm very impressed. Very.

Strings are pretty new, too new to review, really, but so far I like them.

D'Addario's customer service is very good.

And I hope you enjoy the Half-Rounds. I feel like they're a love it/hate it string around here. Consensus here on TalkBass is that groundwound strings (e.g. Half-Rounds, GHS Brite Flats) aren't a great match with most basses, but they ones they do match up with are a dynamite combination.

There’s no best string of course. But I’m happy to buy from D’Ad whenever I need something of theirs. They are a great company and their foundation is really top end.

Tried ‘em last night at a gig. Got a compliment on my tone, probably mostly because of the Terror Bass. These strings really do sound in between flats and rounds. I’ve tried GHS Brite Flats in the past, and didn’t really care for them. I like these D’addarios.

Half Rounds were not “love at first try” for me… but with time I have developed a strong appreciation for them. Now I really like them (on the right bass).

I did the same thing with one of the strings in a set of D’Addario Phosphor Bronze acoustic bass strings. Emailed D’Addario asking to buy and they sent me a free one. Top notch customer service.

I’ve tried the Half Rounds once. I don’t recall liking them but it was 10+ years ago.

D'Addario has some of the best customer support in the biz! They have always taken care of me...I only wish I liked their strings more? I wish they had a 102-45 XL set. 102-80-65-45. The 105 E feels too tight and the 100 E feels too loose. I know, I know a Goldilocks syndrome. But I do use a bunch of their accessories and love their cables
