D'Addario new for 2013 thread!

Yes GHS does sell singles for their Short Scales, but really the only string you need to get in a short is the E string.
Yah, I've just been getting the "E" and "A" in short scale as that's what I have to do in the Boomers but it would be nice to have the silk match :) .

It would be nice if GHS came out with a ~.105 short scale Pressurewound too :) . I can presently only run Pressurewounds on my reverse headstock bass :( - they sound fantastic :) !

Is this the case and why is this good?

Makes it easier to do even right hand technique. D'addario boxed sets are pretty unbalanced when you look at their tension pdf. Guys who make balanced sets buying singles like the XL tone but were not thrilled with the feel because the D/G strings are usually super tense while the A/E are loose. We choose the bigger E and downsize the A-D-G strings for a more consistent right hand pluck on the notes.

Balanced tension means that you can play each string the same... plucking pressure, technique, etc. And notes that are equivalent (7th fret E and 2nd fret A) have a timbre and tone that is less disparate than on a traditional string set.

Seeing the sets at BSO gives me a tingly, I'm-gonna-buy-lots-of-strings-after-the-New-Year feeling. Can't wait to see what they offer for 5 string. (Still hoping for tapered strings that fit Dingwalls without silk trimming or uneven tapering at the nut)

My response was "Awesome! I wonder if they do five-string sets, and maybe steels as well?".

Looks like we're equally disappointed at the moment.

I am just guessing here.... But I have a feeling there will not be prepackaged 5 string sets, but possibly a new selection of low B strings may come available to pair with these sets.

Possibly...

Wow 3 sets and 2 new gauges, very cool D'Addario.
The light 34 pounds set would need a .130 B, the medium 42 pounds set would need a .145 B. I was wondering if they would do balanced 5 string sets since these inherently need big B strings that wouldn't fit customers nut slots, and therefore possibly be unpopular with the lazy who don't want to file out their nuts, or scare some people away by the size of the B.
