D'Addario NYXL Bass Strings

I'd say they are less scouped sounding than the SBs, but still would suit many playing styles and techniques. Sounded good for finger funk, rock and slap.

I thing they're a good set to check out, but that price is a concern for those no-endorsees and with the competition in the field. I'll post my few samples when I get back to my computer.

Do they feel balanced from string to string?

That is probably the single biggest feature of the super brights, which keeps me coming back. Their tone is great, too. But I have some other favorites for tone, as well. Super Brights feel balanced and easier to play, where others do not.

Seems like most of the more recent reviews are from active instrument players. My take is from more of a semi-pro with a Jazz Bass perspective: Solid beef, and plenty of "snot," if you need it; the feel just makes you want to keep on playing. Played thru the "Geddy Squire" patch on my VT Bass Deluxe pedal preamp, there was more sparkle to the snarl. With my Tim C patch, those harmonics really jump out, as with any of the more intense distortion flavors. Envelope filter and chorus effects also had a bit more cut-thru ability, in an ensemble setting.

I normally use XL170's on my workhorse G&L USA JB-2 basses. The NYXLs feel like jumping from a well-made passive Squier instrument to an active Fender American Deluxe; everything goes to eleven. If one gigs frequently enough, the longer life promise of these strings should make for a favorable cost calculus. If you are gigging infrequently, or just playing less (life gets in the way, sometimes), or on a budget, then more competitively-priced strings are likely to gain your custom.

Updating,...
A couple of months in & I'm still very enthusiastic about the NYXL's I put on my P-Bass. I use this bass a LOT and am impressed in particular by the tuning stability. Even after multiple hard-handed takes in the studio, the bass rarely needs even minor tuning. The NYXL's just seem to "return to zero". Very cool. I usually don't get this excited about new 'accessory' products, but these strings really are making music more fun for me.

This is my question as well: are they balanced in feel from string to string? Otherwise they sound promising.

I'm 8-10 gigs into a set of these and pretty well impressed. They stay in tune great, the tone is long lasting. I've been a D'aDarrio pro steel player for some time, but depending on the longevity of these these maybe my #1 string. They are a little less "zingy" than the pro steels, but still bright enough. Interestingly enough I recently had a long time elixir player comment how much he liked my strings. I'm anxious to see the price when they hit the street (if they have not already).

I am LOVING these strings on my Regenerate Guitar Works VRB 4.2 (passive jazz). Thinking I'll put some on my P bass, and something else next. Just waiting for the super long and 6-string sets to be available in July.

I posted this little demo elsewhere on TB, but I'll post it again here. It's not all that great, but I really dig the sound and feel it's worth sharing. FWIW, I mic'd up my Phil Jones Bass D600/C4/C8 with an AKG C414 B-ULS and did a little loop thingy with a TC Flashback. Unfortunately, I had to hit the Flashback with my heal cause it was in a bad spot on my board for looping (I usually use it for fretless in place of a chorus). Enough excuses...
