D'Addario Praise!!!

Umm....the Slowounds and Prosteels are 2 completely different strings:

Slowounds:

-Nickel Plated Steel roundwounds
-Very smooth feel
-Very warm sound compared to most other nickel plated rounds

Prosteels:

-Stainless Steel roundwounds
-Fairly rough feel
-Bright with a piano string ring

For feel and sound, I'd say the Slowounds are much close to the standard D'Addario XL Nickelplated strings than the Prosteels.

I used the half rounds on an old j-bass and i loved them, very thuddy sounding while still retaining some brightness. Also, I LOVE the Chromes too!!!!

I love D'Addario strings. I use the Chromes Flats on a couple of P-Basses and the XL Nickelwound Roundwounds on a couple P-Basses and Jazz Basses. I used to use the Slowounds but after I couldn't find them anymore just started using the XL Nickelwounds. About the same string if you ask me.

I ended up with a set of D'Addario XL Chromes ECB81. I hated them when they first went on the bass. They sounded pretty bright. I heard through this forum that the flats tend to sound better when broken it. So instead of throwing 28 bucks out the window. I figured lets see. After about 8 hrs of breaking them in and cleaning the string residue off my fingers, the bass started to sound like I was hoping for. I am about a week into the strings now have about 30 or so hours on them. They sound awesome, even tone and easy on the fingers.

They are pretty bright at first, but as they settle in they really sound great.

I've been a D'Addario fan for years. I've always used them exclusively on my electric guitars. The only roundwounds I like better on bass are Lo-Riders. I just put a set of Chromes on my J bass, and used to use ProSteels on another bass specifically to cover Tool.

what do D'addario chromes sound like on a P? I am toying with the idea of putting them on mine. (I think they are 40-100 but I could be wrong). I want a bit brighter tone than my current Jamerson LaBella set.

I think they will fit that bill, they are a little brighter than your average thuddy flats, but still have that nice flatwound tone.

I originally started using them because they were cheap and my teacher used them - now i use them because i love the sound and feel. Nickel XL165 Twin Pack

Yep. I have Chromes on my P, and I love the tone. Sweet and warm low end without the thud. They are quite bright for a flatwound string.

I really like the Chromes too. They sound awesome plus they're easy on the fingers, not to mention your frets.
