VERY scratchy sounding strings arco according to your clip. Is your bass fully carved or plywood? Maple or Poplar or something else? I don't think I'm willing to sacrifice my arco tone on my (poplar back/sides) Kolstein Guarneri. They might work on my plywood (1930s King/H.N. White Mortone) but for $190 I'm more likely to buy some new Spiro Weichs for my plywood and keep using the Corellis on my carved bass.

George is a solid body. maple back and sides, so far as i know. I wish my microphone was better (built in mac mic), because even with me on the listening side of the bass with someone else playing it it sounds different.

I suppose they're like spiros in that the scratch only carries a few feet and after that it's nice tone. I will also put in the caveat that I'm definitely looking for a more aggressive arco tone (it's kind of the style here).

Okay, okay, okay! I finally bit the bullet and ordered some Zyex strings. Went with the light gauge since I'm used to Corellis and Spirocore Weichs. I'm gonna put these on my carved bass, since it's both for jazz and arco. Hoping to get more projection than the Corellis. If not, they will be for sale in the classifieds.

I have the Zyex D and G on my bass so far (replacing EP regulars). These are some loud strings, and they remind me a lot of Dominants except that they're a bit easier to bow soon after installation. I've been working a lot on Mozart 40 (upcoming concert), and found the Evahs to be a little too slow on the fast 8th note spiccato passages, while the Zyex seem to have bit more tension and better response time (or is it reaction time.. you know what I mean). I think there's an extra Zyex A out at school.. the Spiro Stark E is staying put though, I will say that.

Loud is good. I want more projection from my Kolstein.

So, do we have any consensus yet on how long these things last? I remember someone commented saying his didn't last very long. Still, I'd like to replace my G and D with these, but I'd hate to have to buy new strings again in another 5 months.

I am glad you like these strings. I think I got the first set in Canada and I couldn't be happier. Right away the string response was so fast that I was playing faster with less energy. I got them for jazz gigs but I am even more impresses with the classical/bowed response. Reminds me of gut and perasto euduxo(sp) which I haven't used in some time. I do like these strings!!

My take is the A, D, and G are great pizz. The E blows! My bass is wearing lights right now. I have not tried them arco just yet.
