dammit, Monster Rock vs Bass?

Yeah, I can beat that easily. Since around 1982 I've had the first Bill Lawrence/George L's cable I made. It's never failed. In that same time I've had several other cables that weren't remarkable at all, just good Belden cable and real Switchcraft plugs. None of them have failed at all. So, instead of having to replace five cables, I've never had one fail.

The lifetime replacement warranty does me no good at a gig when things fail. I don't want them to replace it if it goes bad, I want them to make it so it doesn't go bad. And given the cost of the Monsters, pro-rated over five cables and using 1995 dollars, is that any kind of a "deal"? Not to me.

I've been using the same Monster since 2003, hasn't failed yet. Monster quality has never been an issue for me though their instrument 'specific' claims are bull. IME, they are just as good quality as Geoge L's and better than Switchcraft.

They're tough, have a great warranty, and they're very expensive. Add in the marketing vodoo with the price, and I simply find that there are better choices for me.

In my 30+ years of gigging I've never had a cabinet fall on one of my cables, and only once did a cymbal cut a cable (which wasn't mine). Careful routing of cables, wrapping them correclty after each gig, etc. I find if you take care of well made high quality products they last. And if something were to happen to one of my cables, I'd just build another one.

Good thing they have that trade in policy. You're gonna need it. I've had three. Not very reliable at all. I actually have another, still in the package. Bought it for $10. It'll probably stay in the package. I use Bayou cables, never had a problem.

Monster cables have been great for me. The studio pro 1000 cable definitely sound different than the rock or bass cable. The replacement policy keeps me going back. I've had cables break due to others. Once again... no questions asked.. I don't need any more cable

What do people have against these cables? They do have alot of marketing behind them, but the bottom line is they are tough and have a GREAT warranty.

I don't think Monsters are bad cables per se, just grossly overpriced and kind of misleading. I used to use their bass cable, but it destroyed a lot of my jacks, but I heard that thats only specific to the model and that they fixed it (the problem, not my jacks) a long while ago. I went through quite a few with them as they fell apart, or I've had the tips snap off in my bass, or they started humming like crazy.

Now, they just collect dust.

I now use neutrik ends with canare wire. Haven't had a problem yet with them and I've been using them for about 3 years now.

Now the company Monster... well... they're more evil than Hitler.

I have more against the company and their terroristic business practices than I do with the cables, though I don't think the cables are anything spectacular either.
