Damn she’s heavy!

In and of themselves, Fender basses are not heavy.
When you strap one on, what you're feeling is the cosmic burden of all the unenlightened bassists who have never tried a Fender.
Those who say " No, they're too conventional. "
Those who say " No, their best days are behind them."
Those who say " I know all about Fenders, although I've never touched, played, owned, or even seen one in person." (only in ads and videos)

To each his own, but the reflexive dismissal of a major mojo factory, based on hearsay and scandalous rumor, creates a concrete karma overcoat that is, indeed, our burden to bear.

And the Gods weep............

Mick........Keef.........
Fender is a beast of burden!

I'll go quietly now...........
Let myself out.........
Sorry.......

Sometimes heavy is good

Man, congrats on that Elite. Those are some nice basses.
Kinda sucks you got spoiled on the Ibanez weight from the beginning. I feel like practically everything is gonna seem heavy in comparison to those things lol.
In the same breath, 10.8lbs IS heavy.
As someone else mentioned, a good, wide strap is gonna be your BEST friend with that one.

Not that this helps much, but sometimes you don't realize you have a weight limit until you buy one that ends up being too heavy. Sold my 11.3 lb Warwick Thumb 5 for that reason, and now everything must be 9.5 lbs or less. That does seem on the heavy side for a Fender 4 string. You never know, might get used to it quickly. Regards

I have the T-60 guitar version of those Peavey butcher blocks, and it weighs almost 12 lbs. It is a shoulder breaker, one way ticket to thoracic output syndrome. Sounds great, those humbuckers in there are hot butter, but I could never play it live for more than a few tunes, and never more than 2 in a row.

View attachment 3282660 Ive only owned 2 basses, both Ibanez’s a very light SR 300 that I love and an SRF 750 Fretless 5 string that is a dream to play but had an itch for a jazz or precision and have only played a few at the local shop. Well I just got my new Fender Elite PJ and she is beautiful. The neck feels like a million bucks and it just ooozes quality at every level, but WOW! It’s heavy. I haven’t weighed it yet, but I’m noticing the weight around my shoulders more so than when playing my Les Paul that weighs a ton. Where does all this weight come from? Wood density? High Mass Bridge? Hardware?

Fenders are thick slabs of wood with lots of dense real estate of a body, and always have been. That's part of what creates the Fender sound. Ibanez is an evolution of the bass in a different direction. Fender is the tradition of bass preserving a legacy trademark sound. Both are a matter of taste.

Yes your bass is quite heavy. You do have 30 days to decide if you really want to keep the bass if you bought it from a reputable seller. If you found that you do love a Fender, at least go back to the store and see if they have another Elite for you to compare. As beautiful as it is, if you do a four hour evening gig you're going to wake up pretty sore the next morning.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade. Beautiful bass, and congratulations! Hope it works out for you!

T-40’s are heavy, but not 14 lbs. heavy. They may feel like they weigh that much, but if you put them on a scale you’ll find they weigh 12 lbs., give or take.

The heaviest bass I ever owned was an Ibanez Black Eagle that weighed 13-1/2 lbs.
