Damnation Bass Power Distorter

Just took deliver of a used BPD by Damnation. Put it thru a half hour or so. So far I really like it. It has to be the closest pedal to "your tone with hair" that I've personally encountered. It really sounds uncolored. The depth knob adds the perfect punch and the gain knob has great range. Worth the $139 in my opinion, but definitely worth the used prices. I paid $88 for mine.

Was immediately satisfied.
Good low, mid and high gain tones.
Solid range. I use it for that Tool "H" intro tone.
It does it so easily.

Agree. Not really a bad spot on the drive knob.

I do love me a dirty boost and I'd be very interested in hearing some sound clips - I apologize if any have been posted here on TB that I've missed. There's three on Youtube, one is through an already heavily distorted and heavily modified Les Paul bass, one is always-on with a full band mix so you can't hear it A/B'd with the clean tone or by itself, and one is with a Bass VI through a bunch of other effects, none of which is remotely useful to me.

mine showed up yesterday. I really like it! It's hard to get a bad sound out of it. I haven't played with it enough, or in a band setting, to have a fully formed opinion. But I like what I've heard so far…

I've heard some people describe this as being able to do low gain incredibly well, but every clip I've heard has it sounding quite dirty to me. Those tones I've heard I already have covered. Can anyone compare it to a Dunwich ODB or modded Pork Loin? Those are my standards for "low gain tube" type dirt. I absolutely LOVE my MBD2, and I'm sure this is awesome in its own way, just not sure it's what I'm looking for.

Being perfectly honest, having had a Pork&Pickle, so I'm familiar with the PL side of low gain.
If you've already got those tones covered, the BPD won't net you any extra ground, IMNSFHO.
I do like what it does at low gain, but I have plenty of other pedals that do that too.
I prefer it set to med/hi gain.

It worked out so well, I now have two - one for each board! It was a generous thing to do to let me borrow your MBD1, and I much appreciate it. Those MBD2s are my "generic" (not in a bad way, just in that it's incredibly versatile) modern metal tone. At this point, they're plug and play!

And regarding the BPD, this is a good thing. I'm trying NOT to acquire more pedals this year, and am actively trying to unload and simplify things. My ears told me that this was likely better at high gain, but I kept hearing people talk about low gain options too and was intrigued.

In my opinion there is no bad spot on the drive dial. Low gain, high gain, doesn't matter. It's all usable and never gets too crazy. Low gain is actually my favorite setting since I'm not a huge user of fuzz or distortion in a band setting.

Besides the drive possibilities, does it provide a little overall squishy compression feel, like a real power amp does, or is it all about the tones?

The MBD3 has no compression to my ears. I use low gain mostly, but I hear compression with my other low gain drive pedals.

Is the Depth knob like the Blend knob on the MBD3, which introduces clean lows? It’s confusing because the MBD3 Depth knob introduces more lows into the drive (distortion) circuit.

Its a different circuit. On BPD the Depth control is a bass boost after the distortion circuit. In MBD the Depth control sets how much bass goes into the distortion circuit.
