Dan Schwartz. RIP.

Dan Schwartz has passed into the night.

He may not have been a household name to many, but you'll probably know his work on Sheryl Crow's first album Tuesday Night Music Club. Check out David Baerwald's 1992 album Triage. It's a dark, challenging, political album, but if you're so inclined, give it a listen. It’s a favorite. Dan played bass on it and co-produced. For me, he was up there with the best, and it was so cool that he gave himself to us.

I never met him personally, but considered him a friend and all around good guy. We had some good times and great conversations about music, bass things, politics, and all sorts of other topics. Before the advent of social media, Dan was on my short list of musicians whose catalog of works and contributions provided unending listening pleasure, and as a bass player, many examples of the very best ways to approach the instrument that is my home. And then I got to know him on Facebook.

He knew his time was coming to a close for quite a while. I truly admired how he handled the reality of this inevitable outcome. I’ll so miss him.

My condolences to his family and friends. We lost a good one.

I’ve played around with so many of the KG Schwartz basslines. I’m not sure if I ever mentioned that to him.

Yes, Dan played "The Lord's own bass" on the Kevin Gilbert record if memory serves. Great player. So sorry to hear of his passing. Is that him also on The Shaming of the True? The bass on City of the Sun is supreme.

Wow, apparently I've heard many of his lines but never bothered to find out who played them. RIP, Dan.

In addition to playing bass and other music pursuits, Dan was a respected writer in the audiophile world. He was writing for The Absolute Sound in the early (best) years of that hi-end audio magazine. Dan had finest home audio system I have ever heard.
