Danelectro long horn bass

Can't say enough good stuff about the longhorn. I loved my 98 RI. Only sold it to fund a major purchase, but definitely plan on picking one up again. I know some people say bad things about Danos but I have yet to experience any negatives. The only thing that was a bit of a hassle, i guess, was that you had to take the neck off to adjust the truss. But it looks like they solved that issue with the latest line. Go for it, you won't be sorry!

It wouldn't matter to me. I like messing with my basses, I take my dirnt's neck off like 3 times a month. If they made a long scale, setneck/neckthrough longhorn I'd be all over it like a (insert whatever) to a (insert whatever that last thing would be all over)

I currently have one of the Longhorn Pros from the early 00's and had one of the RI's as well. The bodies are surprisingly sturdy and oh so light! I've not experienced any issues with either of them apart from the tape binding coming loose on the RI.

Nice blues bass, not really good for rock tho. Huge tonal spectrum from deep lows to crisp, twangy highs. I sort of wish it was a bit heavier, because it doesn't really have its own center of gravity, if that makes any sense. Overall, its a sweet bass! It looks sweet, plays sweet and sounds sweet.

I owned one loved it and yes I wish I kept it.I was mainly playing a Ric at the time so it was totally different but I wish I never got rid of it(it was periwinkle blue)I almost got the seafoam colored one.I will guarantee another one is in my future

IMO, it's a terrific rock bass when combined with the right rig... Of course, this will depend on the definition of 'rock'... I play in a loud roots/rock band, and the Dano certainly is anything but shy with either of these rigs...

'71 V4 with 2X15 Gibson cab, (though the cab is gone and has been replaced with a V4 4X12, for even more awesome!!)

I agree that the pups can be a bit weak at any settings other than both maxxed... Soloed sound doesn't work for me... The pups in the new 'Dead On' series are supposed to be the same as the recent 63 Series which are throatier than the earlier re-issues... FWIW, I love the pups on my 63 longscale. I'm thinking about just wiring my Longhorn in series and calling it good...

If you're talking about the strap buttons, on my '00 Evetts, they're the plastic ones that used to slip out at inopportune times. A little glue corrected that...

As to other concerns with the construction, the 'cheap-ness' is what I love most about them. Masonite construction seems reasonably sturdy, (I hear the 'Dead On' ones are an even sturdier ply)... Mine certainly hasn't been abused, but it hasn't been babied either... 7 steady years of gigging and still going strong!
