Bass arrived, just opened this morning. Haven't even had a chance to pluck a string on it yet. So far it looks good. I will say the bridge installation seems wonky to me. Its elevated above the bass a good 5/16 or 3/8 of an inch. I think thats normal from pics i've seen, but seems very odd imo... Overall it feels a bit light and cheap, but i do think thats also normal for danelectro's in my experience....can't play till this evening, will expand on thoughts then...

I've had a late 90s DC bass for 20 years, Still holding up as new. While the plywood type construction feels odd (compared to more traditional instruments) , I assure you they are well built and stand the test of time. Look at Fat Mike from NOFX. Hes been using and abusing Danelctro basses in Punk forever and they're still ticking.

Ok, got home and just got to play on it for a few (don't have amp power cord here). Sorry for my negative post earlier, i was actually just mad i had to dart out of house for work this morning, i was running late and just opened it to make sure it survive the shipping (it did perfectly). It seems well crafted, i can't see any flaws right off the bat, and finish looks near perfect as far as i can tell, it is a stunning looking bass. Neck is glossy, feels nice. I've never had a metal nut on a bass before, but kinda dig it so far. With no amp, and a pick, its got a good crisp feel when chunking down on it. I've got one question for you guys. So it looks like all bridge saddles are bottomed out against bridge, maybe just a bit of room, but not much. The action is still a bit high for my liking. Do the 3 screws that elevate the bridge from the body have adjustment room? Just my thought is, the bridge needs to lower a bit to allow saddles to have better range of adjustment. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

The two front screws adjut the action. The back should be a hair lower than the front. It is TOO much lower than the front, there's more risk of the dreaded bridge bow. (Whether you'll get bridge bow is the luck of the draw. It depends on whether your bridge plate is made of good metal or not. But if it happens, it will take years not days to happen, and it can be fixed).

Showing my bridges, how they're set.

My Jerry Jones longhorn has a more conventional bridge, like on a jazz bass. My Chinese longhorn came with a popsicle stick bridge, but I can't find it. I switched it to 6 strings with a Danelectro metal-saddle guitar bridge, but them the soft-body-wood failure happened, so now it has a Jeff Senn 6-string bridge on it (Danelectro-shaped, but it sits on the body like a conventional bridge and uses Tele saddles), but it's at my bandmate's house, so I can't take a picture of it.

(1) '90sDC/shorthorn I bought last year. It probably lived in its case most of its life. This is the original bridge. It's slightly bowed, but still totally playable. I have an extra Jerry Jones bridge. I might replace it; I might not.


(2) 2011 56 dolphin bass, with Jerry Jones bridge:

and (3,4) the original bridge, which failed miserably:



(5) a Danelectro or Allparts replacement bridge that I replaced the above failed bridge with on the dolphin, but it was starting to bend a tiny bit (probably less than the DC's). I could have left it alone, but I had the Jerry Jones bridge lying around...

I always take my pics, throw them on the desktop, then grab them as attachments from there. Try that method and see if the pics work.
Ok, sweet, i did the bridge adjustment, super easy and quick. Maybe did an even 3/4 turn on left and right front screws, and maybe 1/2ish turn on back screw. Still has gentle downward slope towards back. I do now understand you guys talking about bowing bridge plate being an issue after time, lots of stress on those floating mounting points. Your pics show it big time Mcgreivey. My neck is darned near straight. Could maybe use just the slightest bit of relief via truss adjustment if were to get picky. And playing a bit, the neck does remind me of a couple of gibby necks. Some sg's have similar feel. I'm digging just looking at it right now, lol thanks for your all's help. oh, and i did lower the pickup's a bit too. took a few to figure that one out, lol

when i clink each link on those pics, they each download to my cpu, i can then view them. Just download them, then maybe you can re-grab them as jpegs

ok i just tried it myself, i can view, but can re post them, they show up the same, don't know what you've done, lol:crying:

Yeah, I tried to do that, but got the same result.

I think the upload process used to allow me to decide how I wanted the image to appear in the post: as a full-size inline image, or as a thumbnail, or maybe as a link.

And I remember being about to go back and edit and change it if I wanted to make a thumbnail into full-size, or vice versa..
