Does anyone know when Evets switched from “D” tuners to the pyramid style?

Getting around to posting a photo. I've got a number already.
Going to my 4th jam in 5 days since picking this one up. In previous years I had a Silvertone dolphin-head and a U2 reissue dolphin-head. I like this the best by far. Setup including intonation was spot on - nice surprise. Suddenly this is my #1. I prefer this adjustable bridge way better than the popsicle stick I had on the 2 basses and a U2 guitar.

My DC bass has D tuners. They work fine, and they can be disassembled easily for cleaning. They're not high-ratio (they're 14:1 or 15:1), but they work well enough. I see no reason to change them. I took them off and cleaned them because they were turning glitchily. Whatever lubricant was in them had gotten gummy.

My 56 has tuners that can't (as far as I can see) be disassembled for cleaning, but they've always worked fine. If some day they show signs of gumming up, I'll probably take one off and see if they come apart. They do have handy oiling holes, though.

Except that yours are shiny.

My 56 is from the first run after they moved production from China back to Korea. The paint and hardware are matte-finish, like the Chinese ones. Not sure if some of the parts were actually made in China on mine. I think the body wasn't made in China, because it's not made of too-soft wood like my Chinese Danos are. My Chinese Danos's bridge blocks won't hold screws upright.

What terrible bridges huh? My 56 was never used. Older guy bought it for the girl in his band and she never used it. Sat for at least a couple years judging by the color of the frets. The bridge was bowed all to hell. I'm making a new one out of hard wood. Here's my first prototype :)

Actually, yes. I replaced my sucky bowed bridge with a Jerry Jones one....

I like the sound of the newer wood bridge screwed into the body much better than the original setup. You should give it a try. Even screw your new straight bridge directly onto the body and make a taller saddle out of hardwood or bone. I bet you'd like it better.

Yeah, I'm thinking of fabricating something for this one. I had a Jerry Jones bridge on it at first. I'm still working it out.

I've owned several Dano products over the years - guitar, basses, pedals. Since picking up a new bass I thought I'd catch up on the history and lore behind these things. First, I read all 162 pages of posts on this thread. I learned a couple of things while doing that. I learned here that there's a book "Neptune Bound" that covers all things Dano. Amazon is sold out so I checked eBay. Hmmm only $2,000 USD from some seller in Kentucky.
