May I ask why?

The 6 saddle bridge is flimsy and bends in the middle. It's too narrow for the neck and the string spacing doesn't get as wide as I wanted. The Senn bridge has better transference, slightly wider string spacing, and no rattles.

I just replaced a set of GHS Pressurewonds with Chrome Flatwounds. The Pressurewounds were definitely brighter sounding. I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

And for what it's worth, I have no issues with the original saddle either...

I forgot I had a set of GHS Balanced nickel strings which were too sort for my 32" scale bass, but they fit perfectly on the Dano and sound good. The bass just sort of asks to be played with a pick.

I have GHS Boomers on mine and I've always thought they sounded good. A lot of folks seem to like flats, depends on what kind of sound you're going for I suppose but I've never bee a big fan of flats on anything I own/play.

I like flats for some things. My Bronco has Chromes, my Aria 34" hollowbody and Squier Mini P have La Bella flats. It's nice to have a short scale that seems well suited to rounds.

First I would say I've never seen anything like that on a Dano. If it is for adjusting neck angle it goes against Nat's simplistic design approach so would be non-standard. Taking the neck off and seeing where the hole comes out will tell you a lot.

Putting a few shims in the neck pocket should help you adjust the neck angle. Danelectros never had adjustable truss-rods - Nat thought they would fail over time so he put steel rods to hold the neck straight so neck angle, bridge saddle and nut slots are the only adjustments you have.

PS - those adjustable screws seem like a good idea but in at least one case I've seen the screw cause the neck to split right up the center so shims are a safer method, tried and true.

Thanks Verne. Actually I think my old convertible has the same hole, can confirm this evening. Found these pics a while ago that seem to have something similar going on too. Either way I'm sure you're right about shims being much less risky.

I can attest to this. My '68 Coral (Dano) Deluxe Bass w/two steel beams/rails, after over 50 yrs - is still straight. However.., one of my two Dano made Silvertone 1443 Hornet basses w/the same twin steel beams/rails required much work to make it playable.

As a disclaimer, it was an abused basket-case when I got it but I was able to resurrect it into a player. (note - we're not the "Gnarlymen" ... we were sharing their back-line)
