Here's the only Dano in my pile. A Rumor that I just installed a bridge pickup in. Light...fast neck..I really like it much better than the ancient lipsticks that I had years ago.

Yeah, WAY louder. I'd read that they were high output, but I was shocked! It sounds awesome, but you sure can't use anything on the same old settings.
Keep in mind, I discovered the output difference while switching between it and my G&L L1505 - and that's anything but low output, blew it away volume-wise.

The G&L MDF pickups are no slouches and they are easily as loud as most active basses. I had an 1982 L-1000 with mahogany body maple board and it sounded massive and had as much output than my active Modulus Q5 which had dual Bartolini pickups! So if your Hofner is louder than your G&L 1505, that's impressive. My Hofner would be on par with my G&L as far as output. What year is your CT?

Aside from their natural-born kitchiness, my favorite part of Danos is the lipstick tube pickups. I wonder why the RI company went with a P setup on the Rumor? I can't help but imagine a version of it with lipsticks...maybe it's time to think about another project.

Stripped (and overpriced IMO) Dano/Silvertone bodies are not at all hard to find on eBay. Necks are a whole 'nother story.

As of yesterday, I've joined this here club, by way of a Wild Thing. The prior owner put a fully adjustable bridge on, and since this isn't one of the original classic designs, I have no compunction about letting it be modded a bit.

I wasn't sure what to expect with how it plays...but after doing the usual adjustments, it's already feeling goooooooood! Big ol' fat & punchy tone, too. The only thing I need to tweak now is the pickup right under the E string to keep my low notes from clobbering things.

I've wanted one for years...so finally bringing this home has been a huge deal.
Nice Bass, I thought those were really neat when they came out, but was too chicken to get something that "wild" for myself.

Pretty sure that those came with the adjustable bridge - so it's all original by the looks of it.
And apparently it's as authentic as the 63 bass (which is a bass version of something that only existed as a guitar) in that there were at least prototypes of those made in the 60s and poassibly some very small numbers produced (I can only assume guitar only) - so it BOTH brilliant both in terms of design and aesthetics and under appreciated).

I got it used from some guy so I have to guess about 2008-2011 - it has the features of the first year-ish ones. Now - the 1505 is one pickup but it is NO problem with the compressor and it was UNUSABLE at any setting no matter how low or high (depending on how you want to say it) which I don't think was a problem back when I had a tributle L2000 which has the American pickups so they should be the same output if nothing else. Similar to the Tribute - the Ct is supposed to be the same German pickups, so maybe I never tried the L2K with that comp (since you said they're about equal).
A Modulus Q5 too? Geez, not too many guys I'm jealous of, but...

Love that Finish - I wish Dano had released those finishes on some of their vintage designs.
Those (and all Danos) are great basses to add to since all it takes to "route" is a sharp Xacto knife.
P.S. that seems to have the effect button on the horn, which effect was on that, fuzz, chorus?

Hey Danosix..

You haven't heard of the Exacto routing technique? ..heh.

Yeah, after I had gotten a reply and question about that, I suppose I could have gotten into a little more detail as I did down the thread a bit.

I also disabled the chorus circuit, but kept in the cavity.

If you go back, you can read up on it more if you like.

It's all good.

Thanks...

No, I was saying how "easy" XActo routing is.
What I forgot was that those models aren't hollow with Masonite on top like the "traditional" dano models are.
I have also used the Xacto method on a bass with a Spruce top (an old Godin that someone had wrenched the guts out of and replaced with one j bass pickup in the PBass position in a VERY badly cut hole). I got a set of EMGs and cut a perfectly tight "route" for the second pickup with my good old XActo knife (it NEEDS to be one of the metal handled ones with the pointy precise blade - not the slidy ones people use for wallpaper). It was my first drastic mod and I am proud to say it looked, worked and sounded really good.
I actually wish I'd kept it cause it was all those things (and LIGHT!) and, as a modified, uncommon bass I got virtually nothing for it when I traded it in.
Needless to say, none of that would be possible with a solid bass, at least not if you wanted to finish it in less than a human life span.

Nice Rumor radioripser. My first Dano was a Rumor as well. I love it and still play it all the time. Do you need a number?
Hi portaflexer..

These Rumor basses get to you..if not at first, they will eventually. Took a couple of years or more for me really latch on to it.
I'm glad to hear that you enjoy it. That's cool.

I've been asked if I need a number somewhere else in the forums.

What number?

Well thank you portoflexer..

I've added it to my signature and will try to be worthy!

heh.

Take care...

But no short-scale! Bah!
Well, I agree that an authentic shorthorn bass reissue would be cool. (I'd be SO in).
But, honestly between the Dolphin and the Longhorn you have your options in short-scale lipstick tube with hollow frame/Masonite top.
This DC is actually something different - longscale for a different sound and feel (I know - Hodad, 63 longscale exist) and (according to owners) these have a block running from the neck pocket to the bridge ala 335 rather than the bridge block on the hollows - so it has a different tone and sustain profile.
