Danny Klein - J. Geils Band

I have been checking out some J. Geils Band songs and have really taken notice and gained quite an appreciation for Danny Klein and his bass playing. His funky and bluesy bass riffs were integral parts of the songs and the guy could really play extremely well.

yep...and J. Giels Band was a fantastic live act as well...If you ever saw them back in the day, they had every butt in the crowd shakin...

+1, I used too see them a lot around NYC in the early 70's when they were still opening a lot of shows, I always felt bad for the headliners,they were a very tough act to follow.
They were another group where the writers credits on those early albums would lead to some lifelong joys for me.

Peter Wolf once told a story in Rolling Stone that in addition to great bass playing, DK had amazing coke-locating abilities. He said he was able to score pretty much anywhere they went. Of course, that was in the 80's when coke was considered a fun drug.

They opened for alot of bands in the seventies. I saw them 4 times from '75 through '78. Never failed to get the joint up and rockin'.

Great band and great player. I saw them in New Haven in 1982 and they did something like five encores. The Jon Butcher Axis opened for them...another good Boston band.

Always dug the bass line to "Freeze Frame".

The "Full House" Live album is KILLER. Very good representation of their early live show.
LOVE "First I Look at the Purse"! '70s = good times!!

A great band. I especially liked their backing vocals in harmony. A lost art.

Monkey Island is my fav JGB song.

Saw them open for the Stones at Candelstick Park San Francisco and in my humble opinion kicked the Stones ass.The Stones were more hype than anything.

I've always dug the Monkey Island album, it was always one of their more adventuresome works that I thought was overlooked when it came out.

I just caught the J. Geils Band reunion show at the Big Brother Big Sister Benefit in Boston. The band can still deliver the goods and DK still sounds great rocking a 5-string Spector through an Eden rig. The songs are too good and the band is too tight to just come together every once in awhile. I hope there will be more to come.

That must have been a great show. The first concert I ever saw was also J.Geils. It was 1971 at Hudson Valley Community College in Troy, NY. A friend's brother had 2 tickets but he had to work so he gave them to us. I have never heard of or seen J. Geils and opening band before going to the show. The J. Geils Band was very good but, in my young mind (at the time), the opening band, the Allman Brothers Band with Duane, blew them away. I have been an ABB fan ever since.

Listening to some of my old albums, lot's of gems, but Danny's playing and tone really get me.
