Dano-style P-bass build

I prefer the pine as well.

Growing up, I lived in a town between the two Dano factories and near a Sears. Danos and Silvertones were all over the place and we still see instruments, amps and parts at local garage sales now and then. We also had a Montgomery Wards down the street but the Airline stuff never really caught on around here as far as I could tell.

When I was younger I took a couple of Danos apart in my father's basement just to see what made them tick. Several years after Dano shut down I ran across a guy at a local flea market with literally barrels full of instrument parts. I picked up as much as I could carry. Those parts have long since gone to others but more recently, I've used RI parts for some of my own builds such as those below:

I still have several Silvertone dolphin noses and even gig them at times.

How I would of loved to grown up around all of that. Gary Tallent (Springsteens' bassist) has told me stories of working at Danelectro when he was younger. It's kind of that way around here in Nashville with Gibson; you would be suprised with what you find at garage sales from time to time.
I really like your hybrid Dano's. I used a U-3 body to make a baritone, the sound of all three p/u's on at one time was amazing. Very nice.

The body is 1-7/16" and the masonite is 1/8" each so it'll total 1-11/16" thick. The vinyl will be glued on to cover the unfinished plywood, just like the vintage Danos.

I like where you're going, but that particular design doesn't quite look right to me. To be honest though, I thought I wouldn't but I actually like how the original pickguard looks on it.
