what are the deal with these basses? I cant find any information about them, why they are unique, history on why they were produced, etc.

They're unique because of the cool green color and martini-glass inlays. I believe the name Dargie has to do with Sterling Ball's son. A Music Man expert can probably weigh in with more information.
There is a limited supply of Dargie basses, and I love that color, etc. I tried a Dargie Bongo 5HS a few months ago, and I wanted to keep it.

The Dargie originated as the forum members were asking for a special instrument, and about the same time, Sterling and Scott 'Dargin' Ball were hashing out a discussion that green instruments don't sell.
So they created the model using an old Logan Green color, came up with the special martini glass inlays and body logo, and called it a Dargie. The first order window opened for a week back in mid 2006, then a 2nd order window opened again in late 2006. The 1st run Dargie were around spring 2007. I think the stats were 277 total instruments built, that's basses and guitars. Not bad for essentially about a two week order window.
The 2009 Dargie II is what you see on the Bass Central site; shifting green-carmel color and oval inlays.

FWIW, the original Dargie color was much better than the later one, IMO. The original was more green.

And Caca has the history pretty well down. The original order window was for 10 days and was not well-announced (except on the EBMM forum). The number of orders for them was surprisingly high (people do like green basses, esp. w/martini inlays).

I like both. The Dargie Bongo 5HS I played had the later finish, and I liked how it looked different colors from different angles. Plus, the bass played and sounded fantastic!
