Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

I understand the concern, especially if one has already bought a product that didn't keep its promises of updates (and I'm a HX Stomp user, so I know what long term upgrades means).

On the other hand, I have the feeling that Anagram is much more mature, with a very large collection of blocks from day one (much more than I would ever need), and the NAM compatibility which opens it to an inifinite and growing collection of modules.

For me, the 2 only things that really needs to be added by a software update are the ability to play Bluetooth audio for practice, and external editors.

It seems that *this time* they have really designed a platform that they will want to upgrade and maintain in the long run. Hopefully.

The only risk is that if it fails to succeed commercially, they will probably stop upgrading it. It could happen because the price is quite high, the bass specific market is tiny, and the competition is already huge. Time will tell.
For the moment the Anagram seems to be selling like hotcakes, the first production batch is already out of stock, next one for this summer.

Dear all
My unit arrived this morning, so I won't be able to perform a full evaluation until Monday.
However, based on initial impressions:
- The build quality is outstanding.
- Firmware update process was straightforward and completed without any issues.
- The touchscreen is highly responsive, and the overall user interface is well-designed and intuitive.
- The only potential drawback appears to be the power supply, which seems somewhat fragile or underbuilt.
- Integrating a MIDI footswitch such as the Darkglass model, along with an expression pedal, could make this setup compelling enough to replace my entire current pedalboard.

Is the input TRS?
Can I use a rick-o-sound on it?
It would be lovely to use split channels with it, can’t wait to test it…

edit: just checked, manual says:
input: mono
Return: stereo

Maybe I can then use the return with a Rick?

I just tested with my Ric and you can use Rick-O-Sound! I did neck pup into the main input and bridge into the return. I split the signal and had an Ampeg amp and cab for the neck, and used the return block to bring the bridge pickup into a drive and guitar cab. Sounded pretty good. I can test further later.

great, tks!
since the return is trs, I’m considering a longer trs cable from the bass to the anagram, thus using only 1 plug at each side.
I would then still have the regular input for another bass and play with the channels

I would love see the ability to use multiple splits / merges. I'm currently using one to create a clean blend for the dirt section up front, and it is leaving a lot of processing power on the table to only be able to tap into it once. For instance, it would be nice to run reverb and delay in parallel after the merge, and then split again after those merge for a front of amp signal and a front of house signal with amp and cab sims. Would also be nice to add any of the unused blocks to the primary chain.
Great feedback! ^^^ this is actually a deal killer for me. My main tone requires a split signal with clean bass and distorted highs, then I need it merged with further effects (often a touch of reverb at least) and to send the merged signal to multiple outputs where FOH gets cab IR and the other does not.

I wonder if this is achievable. It doesn’t seem like it so far.

You can do this with the output blocks. You can have an output block right before the IR and have that go to either of the xlrs or output jacks, and the other xlr or output jacks gets the cab IR.

Ah yes. Forgot about those. Coming from QC world that doesn’t have that option. Thx! But also no thanks because I was looking for an excuse not to spend my money on it 😜

This is the way. It also occurred to me that I can do the first split a bit differently to make better use of the side chain. It doesn’t solve for the second split for delay / reverb, but that’s nowhere near as critical as the dirt split.

Sir… this is NOT what we do here! TBF, I’d love to see a larger version like the QC for more foot switches, but that will be easily addressable through MIDI when it is available.

I have similar questions. I use a Helix LT with two split paths. The first split is for clean blended drives, then I combine them for a couple of effects, then split again with amp and cab mixed with the noble DI model, then combine again to a single output. I'm unsure whether I'd be able to replicate this.

That said, I'm considering rethinking my approach anyway...

There is a blocklist now in the manual online.

No wah pedal :crying:

Two quick questions for who has already the Anagram.

I see in the block list a send, return and fx loop blocks, what does it mean? I thought you should use send and then return blocks for the external loop, what does the fx loop block do?

In the intro video if I recall correctly they said that you can connect an expression pedal and control almost any parameter of 1 or more blocks with it. Can you use it on the pitch of the pitchshifter to simulate a whammy?

Thx 😁

As it currently stands, you would probably have to use output blocks and do the last split through hardware:

input -> dirt split -> combined effects -> output -> amp / cab / di -> output

Looks amazing. I’d like to see more functional demos, show more how to use it…not Nate Navarro’s shredding (huge fan of his creative chops btw).

I’m not in the market. I have a Line6 HXFX and an Eventide H90. However, I’m interested to see how this goes for live application.
