Darkglass Anagram Multi FX Announced

Sorry, it's what I was trying to say (I'm French, sometimes my English is not so good). I meant nobody will complain if they fix a compressor that doesn't compress, but if they upgrade a virtual amp in order to make it possible to saturate it, some people may be annoyed even if the new version of the virtual amp is more realistic, because they may prefer to stay always clean and all their presets may suddently change after an upgrade. Imagine you upgrade just before a gig and suddenly all your presets sound distorted? Just wondering…

Given that updates are user initiated, this would be a pretty big unforced error on the user’s part if it happened.

I didn't notice that it wasn't compressing, but whether it was a placebo or not, the HL makes it sound a little better?
As noted in my testing; It does provide some tone color. You could recreate it with an EQ, but regardless, if you like what it’s doing then use it. On the other hand, if you need compression in the Anagram, reach for the Buss compressor. If you need both, use both.

I have a good sounding amp already in the WD-800. The result of "Peggy" into WD-800 was okay, but not as good as just using the WD-800. The compressor doesn't compress and while the tuner is pretty good for a modeler, it's not as good as a Turbo Tuner. So for my needs, at least last night, a standard basic pedalboard would have worked better.
I’ve had the best results using a modeler + amp on stage by doing:

A) Split before the amp and cab blocl of the modeler and sending all the effects into the normal input of the stage amp. Sending everything Post amp/cab block to FOH. This way the amp is just my stage monitor

B) Splitting After the amp block, but before the cabinet, and plugging into the FX return of the stage amp. This way you get the preamp sound of the modeler amp into the stage sound, too.

Generally, I prefer option A due to more monitoring flexibility

Unfortunately I live in the world of PA carries vox and keys.

Fractal Audio leads the way with firmware updates. They offer significant updates more often than some people change underwear. It seems like the vast majority of Fractal users appreciate the frequent updates. No doubt, they are extremely pro-active about de-bugging beta release firmware and indulging their user base with wish-list items - unless you're a bassist, of course.

Typically, the best practice is to do a full system backup of your current unit's firmware version 0.xx (presets, IRs, global settings, pedal switch layouts, etc.) before doing any firmware updates, and keeping a running list of the firmware versions (and computer editor versions) in a folder in the event you want to revert to previous firmware/presets/system settings when a new firmware borks your sounds (which can and does happen when models are updated).

Depending on if you're a gig-heavy performer, studio session player, or home punter, your desire to do a firmware update will vary. Some users jump on beta releases and assist in de-bugging, while others (like myself) will wait on firmware releases and only update when time allows, the firmware is stable, and when the features offered in new firmware have significant meaning. If it ain't broke, you don't need to fix it.

I remember when effects would roll out an update that not only required the user to PAY, but also required a physical chip removal and replacement, and you were lucky if it happened only ONCE for a given piece of hardware. IMO, the new trend of downloading new firmware is of tremendous value.

I returned the MIDI pedal over the weekend, not because of functionality but rather because of the overall size. It’s longer than the Anagram and I couldn’t see using it live as I’m downsizing my board and it’s just too awkward to fit.

If you're still wanting to plan ahead for MIDI, the MC6 Pro is slightly smaller than the Anagram (LxW). Rear is slightly taller, but I have them both comfortably sitting one in front of the other on a Rockboard Tres 3.0 (9"x18").

Yep, I had an MC6 before so I’m super familiar with that. If I do ever need one, I would look at the MC6 Pro as an alternative. But trying to scale down from what I have now, so 2 boards down to just my NUX Bumblebee medium which is a small 2-level board.

Based on an official post from Darkglass on their Facebook page, it would appear they have at least a couple more "DSP blocks" coming soon. Not real clear if that's for Anagram or not, but I would assume so. A comment from them as well about continuing work on USB audio and bluetooth.

Predict the one on the left is the Dingwall Anniversary drive. Not sure on the other one.

What a great thread. Thanks to @Rockyy12 for being here and @silky smoove for the deep dive.

I will definitely be buying one of these but I'm not in a hurry—probably as a an xmas present to myself. Hopefully by then some of the glitches will be worked out and being in stock won't be an issue.

I'm particularly interested in the compressor situation, since I have a physical Hyper Luminal pedal as the compressor on my main board and I am very happy with it. The idea that the Anagram doesn't actually reproduce this pedal is weird and a little distressing. Not just that it doesn't compress in one of the modes (which I agree sounds like a software bug), but the physical pedal has three modes: BUS is their SSL-style compressor, FET is their 1176-style compressor, and SYM is their GeV compressor they used to sell as the "Super Symmetry" pedal.

BUS is the most transparent of the three, SYM I think of as more vintage-sounding, and FET I think of as more modern-sounding. BUS is what I use the most, so it's nice that it actually works. FET will hopefully be solved with a simple patch. But is SYM gone forever? That would be a shame.

My speculation is that the Hyper Luminal block will be fixed in a future firmware update. I also wondered about Super Symmetry and would not be surprised if it gets added in a future firmware update. Darkglass making their Facebook announcement earlier today seems in line with the notion that they're developing new blocks.

They replied saying it's for the Exponent. But who knows, hopefully for the Anagram too.
