Who thinks we’ll see a new 500 watt head with the same features on the 900 v2 soon? Would you buy it? Or would you just buy the 900 v2? Personally I would buy it only if it had a cab sim and the compression.

Darkglass microtubes 500 v2

I'd have preferred an Alpha Omega with 250-500W but so far there is no such thing, maybe they'll release an AO with reduced power anytime soon...hopefully!
Now we have just that! I'm baffled that anyone not playing arenas would need 900 watts. I have microtubes 500 v1 right now, but I'm really liking low gain sounds from the Alpha Omega pedal.
A few things:
The microtubes v1 has some design flaws in my opinion.
1) The EQ is great, but there is nothing to distinguish which position, in or out, each frequency button controls. If I'm in a quiet room, I can max out that frequency and usually tell the difference, but I end of forgetting which is which on stage. I should write it down, I guess. Either way, the buttons are a bad idea anyway because just like on the AO Ultra, you can't tell if they're engaged or disengaged unless you bend over and feel them.
2) To be extremely nitpicky, I have to get so damn close to the amp and be looking straight on to see what each knob controls, especially for the bottom row. The knobs are quite cramped as well. LOVED the sliders design on the 900 series.
I sold my Alpha Omega Ultra for 2 reasons that are relevant to this new amp head release.
1) The Bite/Growl buttons are switches on the non ultra version. You can see which position they are in. Love it.
2) More importantly, the Ultra is noisy. I read all kinds of stuff on this site about that, and thought people were just so stupid that they didn't understand what a dirt pedal does. I'm the stupid one. They were right. There's one single comment in one thread somewhere in which Doug explains that the sliding EQ technology introduces noise (with or without the distortion engaged). Not the end of the world, but it was starting to sort of grind my gears, and my ears, especially for a pedal that expensive. I absolutely LOVED the sliders though.
I think there's a possibility this new 500 v2 series might be perfect for me. With compression, headphone out, aux in, cab sim, and the sliders all included in this tiny unit...this could replace my Alpha Omega pedal, Element, and old 500 head.
So maybe a Darkglass rep (@Darkglass even?) could chime in on whether the sliding EQ on the 500 v2 heads is less noisy. God I sound like such a jerk haha. There products rule. Just curious before buying

I agree with you it is so noisy! I had the 900 v2 and it’s a great sounding amp but way to much juice and way to loud! I work just use the head to record silently in my office and the fan alone you could hear in the other room just imagine recording with that with a cab on silent parts that would be a nightmare! I sold the head in hopes that they would release this but I’m not buying this unless it’s more quiet and the sliders are so much easier to workNow we have just that! Okay so I canceled my alpha omega in favor of the 500v2 and I’m glad I did this amp is a game changer And a money saver first off I’ve been using a origin effects cali76 hx for about a year now never thought anything about it. The compressor on the v2 does a really good job and I no longer need the 76 for what I’m doing I really love the drive I probably would buy the foot switch and a tuner and call it a day. The on board cab sims they are good. I like the x7 the best I used my two of my own to really mail the sound I go for one is the Mesa subway 2x12 and the other is a ampeg 8x10 the eq works really well and is easy to use I own the 900 also awhile ago and it wasn’t as good as this amp is I have a feeling all the youtubers haven’t posted anything yet for this because either it’s that good and they want to keep it longer that or there’s a update coming either way this amp rules I would definitely buy this if you are in the market
Can anyone confirm that the sliding eq is silent on these new amps? The sliders on the ultra pedals introduced noise separate from the drive section. This is kinda the only thing holding me back on buying this head.
I’ve been using mine every day and have yet to have any noise at all from the sliders.
Hi, I just bought the head. I will almost always use the clean channel even though there are two fantastic overdrides.
I don't understand why many say that if you don't use overdrives it's a wasted head. It has a fantastic, clear, hi fi clean channel with lots of punch. A wonderful equalizer and an excellent compressor. The clean channel is modern if you use a modern bass and vintage if you use a vintage bass. Finally it's very loud!!!
Why with the same money should we buy a header with only one clean channel?
