Took me literally 4-6 months to get a pickup checked out for health, but he did get it back to me eventually, and even replaced the original black chrome surround which had become essentially chrome through wear, with a new one! Looks good, sounds great. Patience, and you will receive what you desire.
The darkstar is more or less the work of an artist. Hand done. 1 at a time. Built for you. You want off the shelf at walmart ? That's easy, it's just down the road...
I understand the "handmade" concept, thank you very much. My two pedal steel guitars were completely hand made to my specs by one person. One took six months, the other three. Both makers were/are available with a phone call or email.
Fred is just not that communicative... it can be a PITA for sure but ... the pickup itself is worth the wait.
Is there a much call for steel in Apple ? Love to see a pic if you get the chance. Whose pickups did you spec ?
I had the chance to play about with a palm bending Lap from Dusenberg a while back - that was really cool! I love it when that guy sit's in as it brings something to the country stuff I do that just doesn't happen otherwise. That he is also a monster tele'wrangler doesnt hurt of course ...
