He does have VJ basses, but the bass pictured is the green monster. Last time I saw him play live he told me he had to leave it home in semi retirement.

You seem to be correct sir, thank you. Is it odd though, that his has a fender shaped headstock? Just from quickly google image searching, it seems most of the VJ's do not have this.
A talkbasser started a thread about this bass a year or two ago...I think he was asked to give it a tune-up. Lots of detailed, close-up pics. Do a search.

It's a Modulus BassStar neck, at least. The BassStar replacement necks did indeed have Fender-type headstocks.

Yeah that is what I thought when I saw the logo. Those were early era Modulus necks and basses, right?
Yep. Not sure of the exact dates, but I want to say mid-late 80's. You can see that it's the old "woven" graphite pattern, before the current "thousand ladies dancing" pattern was used.

Bassstar necks where made with solid black carbon fiber finish, woven and KLD. My gorgeous KLD is my regular gigging bass, black carbon on my back-up. Both Jazz specs. I bought a fretless woven from Daddy's Junky a year or so ago but it was very strange that the fretless lines buzzed unless my intonation was dead nuts. Needless to say it wasn't. Daddy's took it back no questions. Having played many, many necks the Bassstar is without doubt the best neck I've played. Thin, fast and not a dead spot to be found. Granted; I have never played a modern Modulus or a Zon, but I absolutely love my Bassstars.
Thanks for the cool pics. Darryl Jennifer played this green bass last summer in L.A. I was very happy to see him play it. Great show. Crazy, crazy, mosh pit.
