My project today was to nail down The End of a Love Affair, a nice tune with a couple of unexpected twists. Did a search on Spotify for some tracks to play with, and stumbled on this one. What a nice bass player! Dave Green. British, and he's been around awhile. Completely escaped my attention.

He's wonderful! I've had the pleasure of hearing him live several times - he's been one of the first call straight ahead players in the country for decades but I've also heard him with the likes of Evan Parker and Lol Coxhill.
If you'd like to hear more he's on the classic Stan Tracey album "under milk wood", or for a far more recent reccomendation he plays beautifully on Martin Speake's "generations" (with the great Jeff Williams on drums, they play wonderfully together, I've heard them with Lee Konitz). His own trio album "time will tell" is great too

A hefty while ago a drummer and I went to do a gig in a leafy English village, on the lawn, on a Sunday afternoon. We were united with a not very strong acoustic guitarist. And the sax player was Don Weller. No denying his artistry but it wasn’t the most comfortable gig, as you can imagine.
Dave Green, he’s the closest we’ve got in the UK to Ray Brown. He’s that good.

I heard an album a while back featuring Charley Watts with I believe was the Danish Radio Big Band. The liner notes mentioned that Dave Green, who played on the album, was Charley's preferred bassist whenever he played in jazz settings.
I have a great John Bunch cd he's on. A Special Alliance. Dave Green is terrific on it. Nice Spiro sound
