Double Bass Dave Hofstra - Dang!

So, I went to see a klezmer double-bill this weekend: Isle of Klezbos and Metropolitan Klezmer at Brooklyn College.

Saskia Lane was playing with Isle of Klezbos for the first set, and she played great; really good feel, very tasteful, just good all around.

For the Metropolitan Klezmer set, Dave Hofstra was doubling on bass and tuba. He. Tore. It. Up.

I've seen his name around and heard him on records for years, but I never had a chance to hear him play live before. His tone and his time absolutely floored me.

Dave, if you're lurking around TB, nicely played! And if you're not... well... it was still nicely played!

Great player, great time. when I first moved to NY in early mid 80s he was everywhere downtown. Later I led a wedding band at my students bar mitzvah and Metropolitan Klezmer shared the event with us. It was great hearing him in that band. Real gentleman.l
