Dave Winter? Who he?

For many years I've really admired the bass playing on this track from Rick Wakeman's "Six Wives" album. The credit on the sleeve notes goes to "Dave Winter", but he's conspicuous online these days mainly by his absence (and by possible confusion with Dave Wintour).

Anybody here got any further details for this guy? Terrific groove player.

Just off the top of my head, based on owning ^^^that album ~50 years ago and probably not thinking about it since:

Wasn't Dave Winter the bass player from The Strawbs, Wakeman's previous band before he joined Yes?

[edit: Nope, I'm completely wrong! oh well...]

According to discogs it is Dave Wintour.

Probably just the usual case of misspelled credits on album sleeves. He appers on a Roger Daltrey album as Dave Wintor.

Other notable UK session cats appear on the album too, like percussionists Frank Ricotti and Ray Cooper, drummer Barry De Souza and vocalists Liza Strike and Barry De Souza.

I agree, killer bass track and Alan White kills it on drums. The tight overdriven bass sound is also a joy.

That is one of the best albums every made IMHO. I own multiple copies of the CD's, and will sell them for $1M each when the world catches-on.

He had a lot of players in the studio for that. And I saw the live act, if I remember. IF.

Hi BassyBill I hope I can fill in what I know about Dave Winter.
He played locally youth clubs school dances etc.in Northolt and the sounding area with a band Jimmy Doyle and the Trespassers. He taught me the bass line for the cruel sea in his bedroom the evening JFK was shot.The last I heard of him was when he joined Carter Lewis and the Southerners, ( Later Known as The Ivy League). I been in contact with the rhythm guitarist of the Trespassers
John Watman. He also doesn't know where Dave went after that , thinks he become a session player.He thought he saw him on the TV with Frankie Vaughns G men.
