Bad move, fans or "almost fans" or "would've become fans" may pass on the next time they schedule a show.
A number of folks have performed and/or received awards with casts on that are his age or near it. There's even a 60 year old bassist with traumatic arthritis(left hip) and a steel pin in his left hip who does about 90 shows a year and moves his own gear....me.

My 2 cents.

A bone break can put you under the weather, I can see one show, however if I was the bass tech on duty I would have offered to fill in

Fire or arterial bleeding should be the only factors prohibiting playing a gig.

It's show biz folks. You have bandmates, venues, promoters, and fans counting on you.

The guy gets hurt and the bandmates agree that they'd rather let him have a day or two to rest up. Health comes first, no matter what, and frankly, David doesn't *owe* anyone a d*mn thing. He's just a musician and another human being, but it seems like some people feel they are entitled to getting a show no matter what. All they have to do is get a refund and catch the next available show. I don't know about any of you, but I'd rather the band perform at full health anyway, then watch a show with a bass player sitting down in a cast, especially at a thrash metal show.

I was there, it wasn't like seeing Metallica without hetfield, since he was still up there singing. And he did play a song or 2 at the end.

We spent most of GnRs set trying to get backstage to meet Metallica, but all we met was Ron Jeremy, who was also in the backstage queue. The passes we bought didn't end up working, but we met kirk and Lars on the way out in their limos.

Oh to be a teenager again. This was at the rose bowl, motorhead opened, and Andrew dice clay did a 30 minute set while they must have been trying to JumpStart axl backstage. We were huge dice fans, so it was a memorable night.

We were the only ones standing up for motorhead.

With Dave's attitude towards bassists in general, I'm rather surprised he didn't can him and continue the tour without one.

Better to cancel the shows and heal up that ruin a limb forever. It may not be the most metal decision, but it is the smart decision.

With a break, sometimes you can finish the game, sometimes you can be completely devastated and unable to function for weeks. It's not a matter of "who's tougher", it's biology and the nature of the break. Anybody here ever "just" bruised a few ribs?
