David Potts, Double Bassist

I am saddened by the loss of David Potts.
You could not find a more giving and eager to help fellow.

In fact, when I displayed interest about an incredibly rare, out of print and valuable bass method, he mailed his copy to me. He would not accept money nore even the Australia to Canada postage.

What a guy, and what a loss to bass players trying to figure out this complex instrument.
RIP David.

I just learned of this a couple of days ago, so I kind of am in a state of delayed mourning. I considered David one of the "bearded banditos" we have here on the DB side: always patient, always courteous, always helpful. He and his contributions will be sorely missed.

I just learned of David's passing a few moments ago and may he rest in peace.
I cannot say I knew him, but his posts on classical bass technique were so detailed and expansive, accurate and well written that it was obvious David had a passion for sharing his expertise and great experience.
They were written with humility but I found many times that David's advice on technique solved my issue.
I sent him a few pm's recently and when he didn't reply and there were no recent posts from him, I made enquiries and am shocked at his loss. David is indeed a great loss to the Talkbass classical/arco community.

Not sure how I missed this. Mr. Potts so often offered valuable advice in technique and musicianship, and always with a gentleman's tone. He was kind enough to send me via pm an exercise book years back. RIP.

I’m so sorry to hear this and sorry I never met him. He sent me DMs with method books and etudes based on some of my queries on this forum. Glad to see all these tributes. Thank you David.
