Daydreaming bass playing (or any instrument)

More often than not I daydream about bass playing without an instrument at hand. I gain some benefit exercising patterns, arps, walking, song rehearsal, perhaps stomping the beat using my feet. However not i.e. sight reading (which I guess could work too).

I would like to know if others do this a lot (or never), what benefits they gain and maybe some hints for best practise?

Cheers

I play "air-bass" all the time and find it is very helpful to burn in a part after I've worked it out on the bass. Can't say that I do it for arpeggios and other "practice" routines - that's boring enough on the bass.

I don't see it being real useful for reading though, but you can gain from singing/humming parts while sight reading if you have good interval sense.

I do this, but with drums in mind. I air drum whenever I have any time that I am waiting for something. I look at this to help me be a better bass player by knowing what the drummer is doing on any particular song.
