Double Bass DB and the Prius??

it fits really easy, a bass can fit in most cars though, it can fit in the yaris easily, a mini, a honda fit, I have even fit my travel basss a czechease in a smart car. bring your bass though you never know. one thing about the prius though, my friend just had to have his batteries replaced after 6 years and it cost him $7000, I think you just need to see if it is worth the money to you. You can get a really fuel effecient car and even if gas get's to $2.00 a liter or $7.50 a gallon see how much driving you need to do to make up the difference in money from a Hyrid to a normal effecient car. For me it was $10 000 different in price from hybrid to a honda fit, so I would have to drive roughly 225000km for the hybrid to start being cheaper for me or roughly 140000 miles for it to be cheaper, before you go hybrid check out an effecient none hybrid car, it could be cheaper.

I'll assume that you already have the bass and are considering the Prius. The best thing to do is set up an appointment with a dealer, or a friend if they have a Prius, and take your bass down, and any other equipment you normally take on a gig, and see if you can safely fit everything in. That's what I do when I get a new vehicle. I bought a Matrix six years ago using that method. How else are you going to know? People's opinions may help, but actually loading the vehicle being considered is the only way to know.

PS: No one ever seems to talk about this, probably because there's not much that could be done, but ask the Toyota dealer if the passenger air bags can be disabled. Since people wind up with broken bones and eye damage from deploying air bags, I don't think a double bass, carved or laminated, will come out of it not being in pieces.

I took my bass and amp to the Toyota dealership to try fitting everything into a Prius. I believe the only way it worked was to lay the bass flat on its back, with the neck to the rear. The sloping hatchback dictated the position. It's not the optimal position for a bass. I would probably use some padding under the back.

Perhaps it's your technique. so how are you trying to fit it in there?
