Double Bass DB and the Prius??

It's not on its back. The bass rests on its side, upper shoulder against the back of the passenger seat. The bass is slightly tilted towards the window so it doesn't rock 'n' roll when you go round a corner. Bridge towards the driver.

Out of curiosity, is having the bass on it's back just an overall bad idea? I know you're not supposed to store it like that, but would it be ok on an hour and a halfish drive like that?

No not optimal. I can't fit by bass on its bouts in my Prius like I could when I had a PT Cruiser. I think the big danger is to make sure its not resting on the neck in anyway. I put a bundled up towel underneath the back near the block to keep the neck up off of the center console.

so pumped my parents are letting me use/have their 2000-ish taurus, and my new Upton Hybrid doesn't fit... at all

this is kind of shocking now that you guys are saying they fit in priuses....

It's actually quite simple. A Prius is a hatchback, so it can take a bass pretty easily with its seats folded down sort of like a station wagon can. Your Taurus is, I'm assuming, a sedan. The only way it can fit is if the seats front seat folds back, and even then, it's pretty cumbersome to load and unload provided it fits (which it apparently doesn't).

it fits really easy, a bass can fit in most cars though, it can fit in the yaris easily, a mini, a honda fit, I have even fit my travel basss a czechease in a smart car. bring your bass though you never know. one thing about the prius though, my friend just had to have his batteries replaced after 6 years and it cost him $7000, I think you just need to see if it is worth the money to you. You can get a really fuel effecient car and even if gas get's to $2.00 a liter or $7.50 a gallon see how much driving you need to do to make up the difference in money from a Hyrid to a normal effecient car. For me it was $10 000 different in price from hybrid to a honda fit, so I would have to drive roughly 225000km for the hybrid to start being cheaper for me or roughly 140000 miles for it to be cheaper, before you go hybrid check out an effecient none hybrid car, it could be cheaper.

I agree with this. My parents bought a Prius back in 2005, and I have driven it several times so I can attest that it is a excellent car for general use. The reasons why I suggested they buy it was that it was versatile (carries a lot of cargo and good passenger room), and, of course, it got great fuel mileage.

But this was all back in 2005. Back then, there were virtually no small hatchbacks as good as the Prius was. But honestly, had they decided to buy a car nowadays, I would strongly suggest the Honda Fit to them instead. It gets great mileage (though not as good as the Prius), is more versatile inside, and is apparently more fun to drive and handles better. And there are other small hatchbacks available today that are pretty good also. These all cost a good deal less than the Prius does. But they didn't exist back in 2005, so we never had the other choices to explore.
