Double Bass DB bicycle thread

Just finishing up a lovely week in the Shenandoah mountains. Have gotten in at least one bike ride or hike per day every single day. This is from yesterday’s return to base camp at the top of a mountain. My legs and feet are sore, but my soul is full.

I have yet to find a human ill that can’t be improved by a 90 minute bike ride and 48 ounces of water. Doctors should prescribe this whenever possible.

If the weather up there has been anything like here i'd say you picked the perfect week!

Where were you? I just drove down the Shenandoah Valley on I-81 earlier this week.

I rode from Madison to Devils Lake State Park today. I've found a nice route that's almost entirely farm roads. The scene below is typical.

Of course the highlight of the ride is crossing the Wisconsin River on the Merrimac Ferry. After the ferry, the last couple miles are a doozy of a hill, up to the bluff that the state park is on. At the park, I met up with my spouse, who had driven up there for a trail running event. I got to cheer her on at the finish line.

These roads have almost zero traffic, maybe one car per mile until you get to the road into the state park.

Perfect day for riding.

A great ride , and a ride back. And supporting your wife . Well done!

On the west side of the park , if you are willing to ride through knee high weeds you can go into the old Badger ammunition area , and at the end of the woods, greeted with a view to the south of many, many miles .

Actually, I want to take a ride to the place right across the highway from Badger Ammunition -- the site of Dr. Evermor's sculpture garden. But Badger Ammunition might be fun to explore too.

Dr. Evermor was a generous and unique guy. I have one small bug (8" long ) staring down at my music stand, will be watching rehearsal today.
And if you are there anyway, the gates to the badger site - now cleaned up - are across the street. just lift your bike over the short gate. A grid of streets inside , very bikable, 7200 acres owned by various government entities in pieces . Check out the wikipedia Badger Army Ammunition Plant - Wikipedia

Arigato gozaimasu ! Wow that’s 25 full minutes of Mr Karr alright.
And of course made me go and practice….The Entertainer (?!)

I know, right? Idn't so silly? I love how hammy Karr gets - a true Entertainer, indeed. I like to think someone somewhere has that crazy double bass bike thing and rides it to local gigs...

Been riding quite a bit here in Japan. This was two days ago, 90 degrees. Brutal at times but I was cautious. I’m up again this morning at 5am trying to beat the severe heat. Japan is always beautiful, even the in-between nowhere places. Old signs and rust. Aged out Coca Cola machines and manta rays. Ancient grandmas stopped by time, under parasols shopping for udon. Tom Waits would love it.
