So...what do you like?

Upton Bass clef guts. Strings were so short my luthier had to lengthen my tail by 5 inches! The wrapped E broke, then the wrapped A, then the replacement A. I went back to my 10 year old Animas for the bottom. I'll use the D and G till they brake, then buy some real guts.
I once implied that I didn't care for Spirocores and I was forced to change my username.

I'll back you up Steve! Generally speaking i really don't like them, both sound and feel. That said I did just play them for a week in Tokyo on a very nice Pollmann and they felt pretty good and sounded fine

Weed Wacker strings. I have no idea what came into me to try them. Comical at best. Used some leftovers (literally) on my weedwhacker.

really anything for double bass on ebay is questionable. i bought those cheap guts on ebay and they were so thin, you would have thought they were for a cello or viola de gamba.
not a fan of the innovation super silvers - i slap and they sound worse than metal strings on the fretboard to me. never tried the goldens - i hear they are better.
used to love all plain guts but now i hate unwrapped Es and As. so big and flubby! Don't know how i did it all those years - oh yeah, i wasn't very good.

I beg to differ; second-generation Cordes Lamberts were great whackers on a decent plywood bass. People I know hoard them.

Nothing nice to say about supernils. I bought some on the classifieds for next to nothing, and as a gut-nut I figured I'd ought to try the OG gut substitute. In some ways, they actually sound ok and I get why some bluegrass players dig them. Nice loose feel with a bunch of boom. But, that said, there are huge drawbacks. Very nebulous pitch definition, particularly on the E. The windings are roundwound and are noisy as hell when shifting, in addition to rolling about twice as much as obligatos. I'm also pretty paranoid the bottoms would eventually wear the fingerboard down pretty quickly, especially for slap bass. For me, anyway the arco was somehow worse on the metal-wrapped bottoms then on the all nylon tops. The tops would at least start. I keep them in my case, but just as backups I hope I never need to use.
Zyex's.... by far. I think other people sound pretty good with them, but they make my bass sound like a Twang Festival
I also don't like the zyex. They feel bad on my bass and I don't like playing them on other basses. The lights aren't as bad as the mediums though.
+1 (or, being a hating thread, maybe it should be a -1) for Zyex. Just awful on both of my basses - lights twangy even after a month, and a strange A string. Gave 'em to my teacher, who likes them. Go figure.
bskts: Can you give us a little more information? WHY do you not like the Zyex? What does "they feel bad on my bass" mean? Do you dislike them for pizz and arco? Why?
Many people like the Zyex....so it would be helpful for potential buyers to know the reasons why people don't like them.

Sorry didn't think about buyers. They felt very tight on my bass and didn't sound good to me. They left something to be desired. On other basses I just don't like the sound or how they feel. I can't tell if they want to be dark and thumpy or bright and it kind of annoys me. I think of them as a cheep version of the Evahs. I will recommend them to students though because I think they are the best cheep string around. I just have the option to play spiros so I do
