Double Bass DB vibration damage

hey guys,

We are revamping our rehersal studio and the new arrangement of things would force my DB to be about 5 inches from the front of my speaker cab when I'm not using it.. It is placed diagonal to the front so it isn't directly infront of the speakers, but it is still really close.

My question is, would the really strong vibrations coming from my bass cab be harmful to my DB because it is so close to the speakers. We turn up really loud in the room.

I'm running a Carvin B2000 (1300w@4ohms volume set around 3') through a GK4x12(soon to be replaced by fEARful 1515/66 once completed)

I know your first idea would be for me to turn down, but it doesn't seem like thats going to happen with the group i'm with.

Forgot to add that my DB has a carved front and back if that makes a difference.

Although your mileage may vary, some folks would expect the bass's sound to be improved by the extra exposure to sound vibrations. It's a old technique with guitars to close them up in a closet with big, cranked up speakers, to simulate the top flexing that would otherwise come with years of play. In fact, there are devices called shaker tables that do the same thing, without the noise. Here's a discussion and analysis:

Don't know how much of this translates to the larger scale of a DB. But overall, situational loudness doesn't seem to be something to worry about too much.

I was thinking of that, but I thought the massive amounts of vibrations would be too much. Especially since It would be fairly close to the front of the speaker.

One thing to consider is your pick up actually picking up those vibrations. I played a show once where my realist was picking up the vibrations of the PA system. Yes, it was a very loud show.

Yes, I think I'd be more concerned about feedback than damage, to the bass, at least, in this scenario.

The feedback would make sense, but in this situation it doesn't matter. I don't have my DB ran through my amp. I only use the amp for my BG. My DB is just stored in the same place as my other equipment which is what is causing my concern. I thought the tons of vibrations from the speakers being almost pointing directly at my DB would cause a problem.
