DB750 Fan Noise and Rattling...HELP!

Have any of you succeeded in reducing fan noise on the head by changing the fans?

Also does your head rattle a little bit when you hit low notes? I found that on the inside there's a row of resistors that have gray colored thingies attached to them. They are directly in front of the heatsink for the mosfets when your looking at it from the front. Are these things supposed to rattle? Could I fix it by using some glue to keep them stationary? If so what glue would I use?

This was one of the deal breakers with the 750 for me. I had the same question about replacing the fan to decrease the room noise, but I never found a good solution, and I sold my 750 for several reasons.

I would think that you could get quieter, higher quality fans for the 750, but I really don't know for sure. I'd be curious to hear what you find out.

I changed the fan on my Walkabout, and it has been great. The original fan actually vibrates the case.

I've been really nerved by the fan noise when I first tried my DB750 and I was just before selling it for a few bucks. Fortunately I swapped the cheap original asia made rubbish against a high-quality german Papst fan and that was the resolution: The fan noise hasn't disappeared, but changed to a smooth and even whisper.

If you have the chance to get a pair of those Papst fans (look for the correct ventilation, not only dimension !), get them and let it install by a professional tech. May be it cost you 200 $ or more but it is worth the money if you like your DB750.

I can't understand why Aguilar put those cheapos in their high-end amps, as well as those low-end Sovtek tubes...

But seriously, I wish I had tried something like this with my 750. The fan noise was a dealbreaker for me. I found it to be impossible in the studio for this reason, it had to have its own iso room just for the head!! Not very practical in most studio environments. Really though, for an amp that already costs what it does, to have to throw another $200 at it to be able to use it for studio work is still not so great. I just chalked it up to what it is: A great, fantastic amp for gigging and touring, and pretty much overkill for anything else....... Damn those fans!

The answer I got from Aguilar regarding the rattle of those "gray colored thingies" was :
"This is normal. There are ferrite beads on the mosfet gate resistors, and they rattle a little." So - everything works as designed here - -) ..... Besides : Papst makes VERY good fans !
