Thanks. Check this language out. (From this month's BG column "20 Things You Absolutely Must Know Before Going on Tour" pg. 52):
"Once the show is done and the gear is safely packed and stored, you're likely to want to hang out with your buds and maybe start flirting with that hot girl in the Cure jacket who was admiring your ostinatos all night. This is exactly the moment when some musician dude broadsides you with 'Hey man, that's a cool rig! Is that Boogie 400+ you've got up there? Well, I've got an Aguilar with a Joe's cab, but y'know...' Deal with this character immediately; tell him you're about to be sick, and when you're in the bathroom fix your hair and then stride purposefully back into the dressing room toward your cute quarry. Should Dude McDude open his mouth again, shut him down with the rock star's best blowoff: 'Just give me one sec, dude'"
It's comments like this that convince me that the editors of this magazine just don't "get" this instrument. Properly packaged, tripe like this can be sort of lamely funny. Problem is, none of the other 19 points are funny--they're things like "label everything" and "eat healthy".
In all my life, including 15+ as a bassist, I have NEVER met a bassist who would deal with another in this manner. At least, none who actually knew the names of all four strings. The bassists I know show courtesy toward and even look out for one another. If, after a show, I didn't want to talk to somebody, I'd thank them profusely for enjoying the set and politely excuse myself. There's no reason to treat another musician, or any human being for that matter, with this sort of contempt.

I'd not noticed most of the points you brought up, but one thing I did notice during my time reading both magazines is that BP just seems so much more professional. They don't strive for humor, but they still come off as a friendly bunch of editors who genuinely care about the music and about their fellow bass players.

I found that in google late last week and forwarded it to my friend with high marks. Ashdown stuff is nice, I'll bet the low priced "Ashdown Design" stuff is darn nice, too. I'm going to introduce him to my not quite yet officially for sale Peavey Palaedium this weekend, I think he may be interested in buying it. Unfortunately it was at my brother's house for the meet.

Hi there, Everyone.
Some really nice guys with LOTS of playing experience (one used to have a record deal in another life) got in touch with me this week to see if I'd play bass for an 80's rock gig in early October. They are based in Waldorf, MD--which is about 30 mins south of the Beltway.
They are looking to play Poison/Crue/Van Halen-typs stuff. The gig is paid and they'd LOVE to find someone who would stay on with them afterward.
It's a fun gig and I'd enjoy it, but it's just slightly too far for me to drive with what's going on at work. Is there a brother bassist out there who could help these cats?
