Dead battery after only 2 weeks

Check the negative wire (BLK) from the battery compartment... if it's going straight to ground, this may be the issue.

Used bass? Any chance the bass has been worked on and someone put in a mono or shorting stereo jack rather than regular stereo?

I have a Lakland 55-02 that came wired like this. The ol battery eater. After some wire snipping and soldering it no long destroys 9v batteries.

Same with an Ibanez SR805... also, had a bad barrel jack... from Sweetwater... after a 55 point inspection.

just bought a 2 pack of 9 v so we will see.

Just saying, i have bought numerous batteries that had a very short life span.

Always try easiest solution first.

I've been using Energizer Ultimate Lithium 9V batteries with great success.

Or the cheaper brand batteries. Should be something pretty simple but, if you aren't comfortable doing investigation / repairs? Take it to someone that is. Good luck!

They're all made by one or two big battery companies. Decca makes a huge amount of batteries exactly the same with different branding wrapped around them.

Duracell is the only battery guaranteed to fit your battery cavity so IMO they’re the only option in Alkaline now that radio shack is out of business. Still I’ve had some really short life batteries recently too, gotta wonder if a lot of 9v silently aged out during the lockdowns and we haven’t used them up yet.

I am a noobie and very late to this dance BUT, I just obtained a Mitchell MB200GM complete with the mysterious battery drain, SO - I have just taken a digital mA meter and tied into the battery negative lead and guess what? there's 2.24 mA going out in ANY condition - cord plugged in or NOT. This would argue that yes, the battery neg is tied directly to ground and NOT switched through a ring contact on the jack. With battery installed the circuit is on and draining 2.24 mA at all times. I will be surgicating the fault this weekend provided they actually used a standard stereo (tip ring sleeve) jack!
