I have had the Jamerson set on for a while and they sound great..but the E string is really dead compared to ADG. There is no sustain at all. Is it normal that the E string goes dead before the others or is it something wrong with my string.
I used to have the same problem until I stopped using Labella strings. I have been using GHS bass boomer flats and my E string rings with a much better tone. I have also used Rotosound, Daddario, and Fender flats and not had that problem. It is only with the Labella flats that the E just lays there like it has a mute on it. It may have to do with the high tension they are I also notice my truss needs adjusting on the p-bass when you put Labellas on they must have a pretty high tension.
Don't you want it to sound dead? If not, then I might agree with Jason that you have a twisted string. Loosen it, make sure the ball end isn't bound up or twisted, then retighten it and keep it untwisted.
That said, E's do tend to go dead quicker than the rest of the set in pretty much every set of strings I ever bought.
I love the feel, sound and tension of the Labellas, but i dont want them totally dead. The A,D ang G strings are perfect,,its frustrating when i once in a while wants the E string to ring out for a bar or two and the sound is gone within a second. Im going to try to restring it as you guys suggested. Thanks.
