Ken...

WOW! Thanks Ken and Dave for your help. I actually think I could do this after looking at it. When I eventually get my bass back I am doing this first off. :)

Well it took a while but I finally recieved an answer from G&L. About 2 1/2 months after sending my bass in for repair, I got an email saying that they finally got to my bass and decided not to even try to fix it. ??? So they sent me a new bass! Oh well, i'm glad to get it settled, sort of. I asked back about doing the mod to the pre amp and kinda wanted to know what I could do to protect from blowing it again. I recieved a statement about voiding my warranty if I did this. I may wait now. So I dont really know anything about my bass... thanks for the help there "Mr Techie".
Overall my experience dealing with them wasnt the best. I felt like I was bothering them and became afraid to contact them for fearing they would put me off even further. I guess I should ( and am ) just be thankful that they sent a replacement. But if that was what they were going to do , why waste so much time. Also if im dealing with a "tech" I would really like to get a question answered. It would be nice to know what actually went wrong with my bass.
In this time of economic struggles with corporations I suggest G&L get their **** (stuff) together. A little courteousy goes a long way to ensure a loyal and repeat customer. When you pay hard earned $ its at least expected to be treated as a "customer" and not a irritation.
So would I buy another G&L ? I've eyed a couple of nice american G&L's at a local store, but now i'm really not so sure i'll shell out that much with a company im not sure will stand behind their product. If I spent twice what I did for this one... I would not be happy with this same type of experience.
Sorry it seems like such a rant. I just believe anyone who spends their time researching on here should hear it straight up! I'm not a G&L Rep. and this was my first purchase from them .
I do love this bass. For my money spent I am very pleased with the instrument! A friend of mine just dropped $1600 on a Warwick, which is awesome, but after playing and hearing mine wonders if he made a mistake. Of course while mine was at the shop, he was playin his .

I'll probably do the mod , just not sure if i'll wait. Also i'd like to put in shielding. Not sure if this voids warranty or not?
Thanks again for all your help!! This is a great forum! ( because of you!) Ted

Glad you finally got it back and I'm sorry it took so long. Sadly, your experience isn't atypical.

Warranty coverage on any item you purchase has value, whether the item is expensive or less expensive. Other than length of the warranty period there should be no difference in warranty service, whether we're talking about a USA or Tribute G&L. I would guess that Chris Robosan is pretty overloaded, otherwise you likely would have had a better experience. He's a good guy whose work is basically unheralded.

So...

Understand that G&L/BBE probably doesn't read this forum, so your disappointment in their performance will go unknown to them. As I mentioned earlier, you can post your experiences over on GuitarsByLeo where Webmaster Craig will see it and (hopefully) alert the proper people that there is a squeaky wheel that needs grease. This won't help you now, but may help others down the road - at least until they get side-tracked again.

A few short years ago, someone posting this sort of problem on GbL would raise a huge and vocal stink from others who have had similar problems. All Hell would break loose and eventually Dave McLaren would step in, quiet down the troops, and take care of the offended party. It's now notably more restrained. Plus, at least on the bass side, there are some folks who just fix things themselves where they can. There were some huge flames, though.

You could contact them the old fashioned way and write a letter. Seeing as how they've barely punched through (kicking and screaming) into the Information Age, they just might understand it.

Ken...

Hi, I might not be in the correct thread, please excuse me if so; it is my first visit having just bought a Tribute L-2500 built in nov. 2003. It is the best bass I have played until now. Hearing all the great advices on the range of sounds and the preamp issue, one question: My bass is quite "faint" as far as boosting, the bass pot seems to cut volume as well as bass tone. I replaced the 3 pots, same specs as old ones. Battery is new. The sound is excellent but just not as versatile than expected. (amp: Ashdown abm500 II) How can I check the preamp ? Thanks for all replys. Marc.
