Dealing with gig smoke : an idea

It would be nice to have a machine that could deliver clean
air but short of a sealed oxygen delivery system with face mask I doubt if any air purifier can take on a room full of smokers.:(

What a gimmick! like a hockey mask or KISS's paint... and functional, too.
And, if the rest of the band doesn't want to go along, the extra oxygen your brain gets will make you seem that much better.

I just can't see how a smallish filter could possibly work. Look at the fan in the back of your amp sometime...yuck!

Attack the source of the problem and your regular fan will blow refreshingly cool, clean air right where you want it.

As for choking out vocals, I'm not a half-bad backup singer, but you wouldn't know it if you heard me on some of the West Virginia casino gigs I did this past year...yikes...is there any oxygen left in this place? Oh yeah, in the tanks the old people are wheeling around!

Sorry to steer it back...but try a web site like lungaction.org. I think the only way to really get rid of the nasty smoke is to get rid of the smoking.

I wish Louisiana would ban smoking. I doubt it'll happen anytime soon. We were the last state to raise the drinking age from 18 to 21, and I doubt banning smoking is going to be any easier. Hethons are our main source of revenue.

Here's a more rockin' alternative. I think it's a great new product for musicians. Custom Smoke Masks;- For Fender Players, The Classic:

For those with avante garde basses, The Anime:

For those with crackly old 70's Fenders, The Vintage:

So first we have custom earplugs to protect us from our gear, and then smoke masks to protect us from our fans' vices.

On a more serious note, the Five Spot in Atlanta is one of the very few non-smoking clubs here. It's a great small / medium venue with a fantastic stage, good sound, and really cool ownership. If you come through Atlanta, it is a great place to do your thing.

How 'bout we discusss the original idea of my thread rather than derail it into a smoking ban thread?

The technology of a smoke eater is an electrostatic filter with metal (aluminum) plates which attract and hold the smoke particles.

The fan just pulls the smoke into it and exhausts the cleaner air out the front.

To clean them you just remove the metal filter, spray it with a solution, rinse, dry, and reinstall.

I think it would be great to have a small device like this blowing a steady stream of fresh air at me while I play and sing onstage.

You need a lot of filtering to make a difference in a room with a lot of people, and/or smoke. A portable device will not enough power to filter the air efficiently. Is that simple.

I have a somewhat portable air filter I use for my studio, and it's good to clean a medium room in about 4 hours. But that is, filtering dust and recycling air, not cigarrette smoke.

you could have a wireless setup and play outside. Then you need a camera to see what the other band members and the public are doing inside, and you also need a holographic projector for them to see you inside. Problem solved.

Times have changed, I used to smoke and then I quit. I remember when I was 17: if you did not smoke, you were not in a band
