Dealing with Trailer Park Trash

I used to work with a lighting tech who looked exactly like Jules, no lie. He wasn't quite as built as Jules, but had the same exact black hair, beard, and facial structure.

so, I live in Australia, and we call them bogans.
But these are people who look, live and talk rough.
I have been working with a woman who is the epitome.
She, along with some other workmates and I were sitting at our morning break. She commented
"Your watch is shaging ugly! The worst looking watch! It's shaging dreadful"
My other workmates tried to steer the conversation away from her vile comment, but I said:
"This watch was a special gift from my long deceased mother"
She laughed and said "so shaging what? It's still shaging ugly!"
For the record, everyone else in the group liked my watch.
Until we can see photos of the watch in question, we may just have to agree with the Bogan that is is shaging ugly. How do we know she isn't right about that?

I think the question is, who has the burden in this case? Does the person accusing an item of being shaging ugly have the burden to prove that the item in question is indeed shagin ugly, or is the burden on the person who disagrees to refute that the item is shaging ugly? Until we resolve this fundamental question of burden shifting, I don't think we can have a meaningful discussion about whether or not the watch is shaging ugly.

:D

Give here some tuna noodle casserole. That should keep her quiet for a while.

Watches sure are old school these days, since everybody who carries a phone always has the time. I can't say I've seen many that i thought were rad enough looking to wear myself, but i know that some people consider a fancy watch somewhat of a status symbol accessory.

I do understand liking something more because of sentimental attachment, and i also know a lot of white trash trailer park types from the economically depressed area i grew up in ... thanks to the modern magic of Facebook, i can still see what they're up to these days :rollno: and not much has changed in their world besides 'parenting' (or likely already grandparenting) more kids than they can even afford. There's not much excuse to be ignorant these days of instant information on anything, but somehow they still manage to be.

OP, i feel for you. I try to just ignore these types, but they don't make it easy. I say you wear whatever pleases you, and since subtle insults are often lost on them ... if you have to resort to 'their face' jokes to speak their language, so be it

I wear an old digital watch. There is nothing visually impressive about it.
What was cool about it at the time, and this was before smart phones, was that it came with software that allowed you to create a phone directory on a PC. Then you could load the directory into the watch by holding the watch in front if a CRT monitor while running the upload function in the program.

Many years later, I found out that this was one of the few watches that NASA, approved for use on the Space Shuttle. They must have had some technical restrictions to prevent interference to sensitive Shuttle equipment?
I just recently bought a new band for it. Velcro, if that's '90's enough for ya?

Oh great...I see you met my sister. I apologize she started dating my cousin and he takes her out to places like Arby's. Ever since she thinks she is classy. It doesn't help he had a slip and fall incident at the water plant. He got a big settlement and proposed to her at Walmart. You should have seen the ring it is a bottle opener ring.

bogans should have the burden of proof...isn't that the whole point of the thread?

So true. It was a gift from his mom, though, so it's her taste on trial, not the OP. Are they wearing it for it's beauty or for the memories? We must dig deeper, even if the hole starts to collapse. TB sleuths, unleash thyselves!

the bogan seeks to belittle the op in front of their mutual acquaintances in order to elevate her own status within their tribe at his expense. when the ancestral link is revealed, she pounces to the best of her ability, seeing an opportunity to belittle both her comrade and his ancestry, thereby supposedly elevating herself even further at his expense.

(hmmm...i don't like it. too simple. too easy. too...kindergarteny...)

I'm with ya. My senses are tingling. You're right; it's just too easy, too... convenient. Something strange is afoot. I vow not to rest until said mystery is solved. I'm thinking illuminati involvement, but I'm merely a lay person here. Your sleuthing skills dwarf mine. Keep fighting the good fight sir.
