Dean Bass Phobia?

I own a Dean Edge5. I am not sure of the age, it has the "Duckbill" headstock. I bought it used for peanuts, set it up and put some Chrome flats on it. It has a super nice neck and it's my go to bass for playing prog-rock and jazz fusion type stuff. The transparent blue finish is rugged and beautiful. The only negative is the active electronics don't do much for me. I just set everything flat on the bass and EQ with my amp. The quality is top notch for a Korean product.

Don't be hesitant about dean basses, jack. dean actually makes pretty decent bass guitars. I use to own a dean ml metalman 4-string bass and a dean edge 5 5-string bass. both great sounding basses, I personally like the edge basses the most. peavey makes good bass guitars too. I currently own a peavey millennium bxp 4-string bass. it's really nice sounding. does sound punchy for a passive bass. anywho, when it comes to buying bass gutiars, it really doesn't matter how much they cost. it's the sound quality that matters. I would suggest trying them out and see if dean basses are the right bass guitars for you.

I'm not going to lie...Dean basses are a little on the ugly side IMHO. But I used to have a Rhapsody 8 String that I thought was wonderful, and I'd still have it if I had any use for an 8 string.

I would agree that the dean rhapsody is an ugly-looking bass. personally I think it's weird looking. but not all dean basses are like that. some dean basses looks nice like the dean edge basses. in some ways, the dean edge basses kinda resembles an Ibanez soundgear bass. other dean basses looks radical like the dean ml basses. even though some bass players buy the ml basses mainly because they were fans of dimebag darrell, the ml basses actually sounded pretty decent. definitely a great bass guitar to own for those who play hard rock and heavy metal. despite how they're design, dean makes pretty decent bass guitars.

I'm a massive fan of Dean basses, I've owned four of them (Demonator, Spire, Hillsboro, Edge Hammer), ended up having to sell the Edge though, to pay rent.
I know alot of you aren't much for pointy basses, but I personally think they look awesome, are comfortable, & sound pretty damn good!

Deans are very nice but their looks dont appeal to me as much as comprable basses by other companies. Last time I compared deans with others, it was mostly between basses with same pups and electronics or nearly that. So became issue of which liked better for looks and fit since otherwise was pretty much equal. Though one of their newer 35" scale four string basses did make it to the finalist list this last round of deciding which bass to get out of those on the list.

Deans are the bass I have the second most of, after Schecter. When i went to the shop today to pick up a new bass, I almost grabbed the hideous neon pink Dean they sell, just for the hell of it. Price was better than the ones I was looking at, and was $500 less than the one I ultimately bought. Played ok, for a lower end instrument.

Gotta say I NEVER thought I would own a Dean bass. I own 13 bass's no among which I have Sadowsky's,multiples Fenders,G&L,Modulus,Spector,Boulder Creek,Ibanez's,etc... and due to the $199 price and a need for a I don't give a crap about this bass I picked up a Hillsboro at GC in Nashville. It plays awesome! I had to radius the frets on each edge of the fretboard but other than that haven't turned the truss rod or a screw on the bridge and it rocks. I personally dig the unique pickguard. Mine is the transparent black. Couldn't be happier for $199.

I gotta admit I don't own any dean instruments and still think I won't...but I was jammin' with my guitarist cousin who sometimes plays bass and he was playing my Modulus 6 string and somehow was really taken by it. He must of caught GAS really bad from it because the next time I see him he's got a Dean Edge 6er! It was one of those in that super-ugly dull brown color that Dean sells. Eeew! But I played it and it was one VERY nice bass and new they are only in the $400 range. Now my personal choice for a bar bass are my two SX 6ers at $200 new, but I have to admit if I was looking for a more modern kind of 6er in a real bargain a used Dean Edge would be right in there with my SX basses which are more old-school Fender clones.
