Dean Club!!!

Hi All, I managed to delete my last post so here it goes again!

I have been handed this lovely looking Dean Bass guitar which was in need of some love (these pics are pre-love) It needed a good clean up, strings and the old battery had been left in for ages so the terminals needed some attention. Other than that it seems lovely. I have tried to find the model, and all I can find is an old listing for a similar looking bass in red, it looks like it may be an Edge Q4 with Tribal Inlay?

Looking for some guidance as to the model and any other feedback would be appreciated, I have a Jazz, a Rivoli and a Rivoli ii (don't ask!) so this could add something different.

Many thanks in advance
Nick

Your previous post was not deleted.

The last picture within your previous post was deleted for obvious reasons.

I had made a request to the mods for your own protection.

That’s a Dean Vendetta which is basically a Dean Edge 4 with a carved top, razor wire inlay, different headstock shape and gorgeous quilted maple top.

I own three. One Trans Amber and two Trans Red.

One Trans Red is modified with a full EMG pup/preamp system.

Great playing necks if you like them thin and narrow.

Also, yours must be a last year model before being discontinued as it has the ‘normal’ Edge headstock.

Additionally, yours is Trans Blue having faded to a shade I’d call ‘Aqua’.

All of Dean’s Trans Blue basses seem to fade to Trans Aqua.
Amazing thank you

I bought my sledgehammer from GC for only $240. The frets have zero wear, the bass had never had an intonation done since the saddles were on a straight line and the string height was very high. It looks like a brand new instrument. How do I decipher the E serial number? It's E021235
First off, congratulations on finding the Sledgehammer in such great shape. Pretty much Dean’s attempt at a Stingray sound while looking similar to something Warwick might make.

I have one just like yours. They also came in Mahogany instead of Swamp Ash as well as 5 string models. All one pup and all avtive.

I feel they are quite underrated as are a lot of Dean basses.

I’m on a different PC right now so I can’t really do a definitive check.

Usually 7 is 97, 8 is 98, 9 is 99, 00 is 2000, 01 is 2001, 02 is 2002, 03 is 2003 so fourth and so on.

However, from 2000 to 2006-2007 some of the MIK Dean serial numbers are not reliable for year of manufacture. They used World Music and Un Sung from then to 2015. Dates in 2007 started being reliable from then until now.

Un Sung closed up in late 2015. Dean still uses World Music in South Korea and in Indonesia but also Chinese sources.

I’ll have to check my catalog data which I can’t do right now.

There’s two Tb-ers who had Sledgehammers that did some cool mods. One member made it an HH and the other put Bartolini pups on it. Can’t recall their TB names right now. I think one was @eastcoasteddie or something like that?

Check my signature sometime for what other Dean basses I own.

Thanks for replying! I will check out your collection for sure. I am impressed at the funk capabilities of the Sledgehammer.
