Dean Markley Flatwounds - These must have been Really Good!

I was watching these since last month (it's July already!)
Early June I acquired a bass the had belonged to someone who had worked for - and retired from - Dean Markley.
(NBD Post coming soon?!) So no surprise the bass was strung with an old pair of Dean Markley Flats and they sounded and felt really good!
So I set up a search on ebay, and a set popped up... I thought I might bid $40 or so if they hadn't bid up yet today.
By the time I got the "10 minute warning" they were already $220.00!
(maybe I'll try the Dogal Jaco instead)

These were the first flats I ever tried on my very first bass in the late '80s! I didn't have any reference for flats at the time.
But I got some great tones from my Kramer Pioneer with 2 double-J pickups into a GK400RB head and big BAg End 15" cab with EVM 15B speaker.

I sure miss them and some of the nickel-plated steel rounds the original Dean Markley co. made over the years, they also producedd some really good guitar, bass, and keyboard amps.

You could see if anyone on TB has a NOS set for a non-ridiculous price. Please post some pix of bass and strings if you can.
What would you compare them to among current flats?

First flats I ever tried, on my 4001 back around '86 after using Roto Swing Bass on it since I got it late 70's. I wanted to try and get a Macca sound. I remember I liked them, but my bandmates didn't!

Markleys were among the first flats I tried and I disliked them from the get go.
Among other things, the build quality was awful. The headstock ends of the strings began coming apart as soon as I wound them around the tuner posts.
Silk wrap, windings and all.
