Death... What scares you about it?

I don't fear actually dying... I just wanna know if i'm going anywhere after that. How can you just die, and your conciousness go to nothing? Just black, blank.. nothing.

Maybe it's because I'm young and there's still stuff I wanna do. I hope I get really, really old and experience all I want to, then maybe I won't care if I go on to anywhere or not.

Also, go read the wikipedia page on Near Death Experiences. Weird stuff.

I am currently writing a song about why people shouldn't fear death however I am curious to know what bothers you my fellow bassists about death?

Is it the fear of meeting your creater knowing you made some poor judgements? Is it just the fear of not knowing what happens after you leave this world? Or is it just the fear of not accomplishing something? Tell me I want to know.

The transition

The only scary thing to me about death is the cause. I watched cancer tear up both of my parents, dad 57 with prostate cancer, and mom 63 with breast and uterine cancer. She was a 12 year breast cancer survivor.

They both had in home hospice care and my sister and I were there for it all. When they died it was for us and them a release of pain. Watching them fight the diseases and treatments was a lot harder for me than hiding their hands and being there when they passed away.

I can't count myself as a Christian, but neither do I believe anyone has the correct idea about how the universe, especially its interface with consciousness, is "actually" structured, unless it's the Buddhists. I saw my mother die, and tend to think the act of dying will be a surprise to all of us.
I'd personally like to hang on until my son is an adult and can handle my exit. Also, I hope to have clean underwear when I go, for the convenience of any caretakers.

ED: Oh, and I wouldn't want to be autopsied, because my relatives would then learn just how I'd abused my organism.

I don't fear death itself but I fear "dying", in that I fear any pain, lack of dignity or sadness that comes with it. Having to be in pain or see my family see my suffering is not something I'd want. I always think of the movie Grumpy Old Men "How did he die?" "In his sleep" "Lucky son of a bitch" I want to die either in my sleep or on impact.

+1

I've actually been dead. Cardiac arrest, out for 6 minutes or so. Wife did CPR Woke up when the paramedics zapped me. I saw a bright blue light and a "male voice" saying that men's underwear was 40% off for the next 15 minutes. I figured since I was technically having an accident I should shave some clean underwear, so I came back.

I don't know at what point the "afterlife" begins, but I have no conscious recollection of it.

:D:D:D You made made my night, very funny.

Non-existence is the default setting for a human. There was a very long period of it before you were born, and there'll be another very long period of it after you die. Nobody I know ever worries about the first, so why worry about the second? Just enjoy what comes in between as much as you can and live in a way that will make those you leave behind remember you well.
