Death... What scares you about it?

Just keep on thinking you get it.

Mabe your the one that isn't "grasping the concept". Really, what's so hard about imagining being dead? You were dead/ non existent for millions and billions of years before your mother spit you out. Also to note a lot of the people on this board are triple or quadruple your age so what makes you think "you get it" and they don't?

I flat lined for several minutes about 7 years ago. As I realized I was not passing out, but simply passing, my thoughts were of my wife and kids., I became quite scared later about my death leaving them with a hard life

I was there when my Dad died and I was telling him he was going to be okay and he wild eyed kept shaking his head no and trying to look behind him as if someone was there. He was unable to speak with tubes down his throat ( I think they know they are going and things need to be done such as a tube down your throat in a hospital so you do not reveal the secret you have been told before you pass) It was the hardest thing in my life to see my Dad die but, he knew he was going no doubt in my mind! I wrote a song about it to help me get over his passing. Called "Where do we go from here?"(c) 2002 one of the best most heartfelt songs I have ever written. Asking my Dad in the lyrics did he see that I was trying to be strong as he died before my eyes. RTS

Yeah, I realized I was checking out. I was dead for about 5-6 minutes.
I didn't see a great light or anything like that
I won't get preachy , but I was happy with my choices toward faith. If anyone wants more details about that PM me.
I remember thinking "It was short, but it was a good life & I tried to leave the world better than I found it....
I can tell you when they brought me back, I was pissed, I mean really angry, I think that had something to do with whatever drug was in the flaming hot needle that was sticking in me. That said, there was nothing (my Beautiful Wife who was expecting our 4th baby at the time, my kids, dog, basses ect. that was going to hold me to this world. I was filled with feeling that what waited was greater....for whatever that's worth.

I wonder if I'm insane. Here I am asking people why their afraid of death then reading their answers and noting in my head if I died right here right now. I'd feel nothing not scared not wondering how my family will cope or even how much this dying process might or might not hurt.

I think as humans we all grasp for reasons or things to live for and hope when we leave this world atleast someone will care. Reading your responses I learned my previous statements are false. We humans at our core are self serving creatures.

Sure we think of other people when we're about to die but, we first replay OUR memories OUR dreams and OUR goals.

What I'm trying to say is.

Those of us who have been near death aren't afraid of it.
Those who haven't almost died are usually afraid to accept the fact that one day they'll not be around.

I almost commited suicide and nearly drowned both seprate instances. However both occured within 2 years of each other.

I suppose that's why I so freely speak my mind, embrace death, why I am not scared at the sight of my own blood or horror movies, and feel like if there's a storm around me it either will or won't kill me.

Do any of you that nearly died share anyone of these above traits?

I'm more afraid of becoming paralyzed than dying, although the thought of dying has recently begun to frequent my thoughts on a more recent basis than ever before. I'm not sure why, either.

Right there, or getting so old your helpless, or how it will effect the ones I love-Imaging the women I am married to , lonely , playing cards alone without the person who spent 55 years being her best friend. Those things weigh on me when i think about death , other then that I dont really care, i dont think of an afterlife or any of that.

Like most I perfer it to be painless but I am guessing it wont be and those people you hear of dying in there sleep may have woke up , they were just found in there bed.

In what sense do you mean, exactly? Ive not feared death for some time now. I certainly dont want my last moments to be spent in pain, but even pain is temporary? It'll only hurt for a minute. I dont think a person has to have been on the brink of death to understand these things, but I have been myself, so my perception is certainly biased.
