If anyone cares to listen to some Millennial-core indie pop, my studio project Phone Number Friends has released our debut single "Too Clever by Half." This is a song I cowrote with my friend Scott last year and I'm very happy to have it out in the world. If you're into The Japanese House, or HAIM, or maybe even Laufey, this might be right up your alley.

For anyone curious, this was recorded on a Dingwall Super J. The whole thing is double tracked on bass with one take being a pretty conventional fingerstyle performance and the other palm muted with a pick with all of the low end rolled off to give it a 1960s tic-tac bass type of feel. The fingerstyle track was a DI into a Heritage Audio TT-73 mic preamp, and a parallel track through a Darkglass B3K into a Trickfish Bullhead 1K into a Bergantino NV115 mic'd with a United Studio Technologies UT Fet 47 placed right up against the grill (without touching) and centered on the cone of the 15" driver, and then into a Revive Audio M12 mic preamp. The tic-tac track was the same basic signal chain, but I pulled the mic back about 10-12" from the grill, then in post a very aggressive high pass filter and some subtle slapback delay was added for the vibe.
I'm aiming to release one song every two months until all 12 songs on the record are out in the wild. Getting close on the second track for an intended June release. Thanks for listening!
