decided to build a somewhat unique bass

okay. sorry for the amateurish photoshop, but here's the idea:

it's a lake placid blue jazzmaster bass, dot/bound rosewood board neck, 7.25 radius with matching headstock:

Maybe a dinky body P with really nicely done neckpocket so no shim needed, & deep neck pocket with 6 bolts, and P pups for both bridge and neck position. With nice 3 band active eq with sweepable mids. With more Jazz like slim neck? Lol.

O, well I see its something that looks like just as good an idea. Lol. Likes it, nice blue color to. Lol.

the pickup will be a nordstrand MM4.4 in a modified white musicman pickup cover, and the preamp is a 2 band musicman stingray. the 3-way toggle would control: neck coil/ both coils, and bridge coil. the slider at the top will switch between parallel and series (when both coils are on) and the thumbwheels will be treble and bass controls. the main controls (white knobs) will be volume and tone.

THIS is the kind of thing FMIC should be doing.

I love the idea of a "phantom" bass... something that LOOKS like it's totally factory stock, but was never actually produced.

Awesome!!!

exactly.
judging by my swamp ash stingray's tone, i think that it'll sound in between a fender p and a MM due to the pickup location and the nordstrand MM4.4. of course the 2-band preamp will give it alot of SR flavor.

and i'm thinking about wiring the nordstrand p'up as a split p, full dual coil, reverse split p, and then having the slider switch between series or parallel.

I think it sounds like a great bass! I like lots of switching options.

I'm just wondering what you could do with a 1x6, some sheet rock and some 1960's knotty pine panelling?

Your work is amazing!

+1; how long before he starts designing pups and pre's?

To answer your question about the 1x6, etc.
I think it was supposed to launch yesterday but there was some electrical problem with one of the rocket engines

i worked on the wiring diagram for it today. here's how i'm going to lay it out:

the preamp will be mounted in the cavity underneath the volume/tone pots, and the 9V will have a slot for it under the pickguard near the toggle switch (or possibly have a seperate battery access plate/box on the back of the body).

i'll probably use a stereo output jack to switch the battery on/off, but since the preamp draws only 44ua (micro amps), the battery could remain on 24/7 and still last over a year (and the early stingrays didn't have a switched jack).
