deciding what to do with my srx390

as the title says, im trying to decide what to do with my srx 390....i love the bass to death, but after switching cabinets, im finding that I either a.) have a set up issue....or b.) the bass produces a little too much low end for my liking(and yes i have been adjusting eq constantly).....i play in a progressive rock band, and we do have some songs which are "heavier" than others, but it always seems to me that the low end is always a little overpowering...

is it just the way the bass was built? i searched reviews online and found a little help on TB forums, but nothing too definite...i've had this bass for 4 years now and have been the only owner of this thing.....im just stuck at a crossroad...

could this be something easily fixed with the proper compression pedal?(i was looking at the MXR but its almost $200) i bought a used Boss Bass Limiter/Enhancer from GC but am not finding it to my liking at all...

or should i just be in the market for a new bass? the tuning i use varies from a e flat tuning to a drop d flat....

OR could it be the size strings, or just strings in general, that i am using? i use Rotosound RN 66LD
ive got so many questions that have to have answers!

it was boomy before the switch as well...but then again i was playing through the svt410hlf which is naturally boomy as well.....i do have a MXR M-108 eq that i haven't messed around with....just because i wanted to get the feel of the sound directly through the amp/cab first....the pu on the neck won't adjust any lower than it already is...i tried that the other night...it only occurs on the low e but is present in both tunings, mainly in drop d flat....i have a HUGE gig coming up on sunday and would really love to get this taken care of....i may end up trying to pick up the bass in the morning at my jam room and swinging it by guitar center and pray the tech is there to help me out...if not, i have to hope hes there on sunday before my gig....

sorry i am still semi new to TB and am trying to adjust to the lingo here lol, much different than that of the old camaro forums i used to post on!
